Reviews

Review “This book will be valued not only by foot and ankle specialists, but also by generalists who perform some foot and ankle surgery and take care of some foot and ankle trauma. The book will be highly valued by residents and fellows due to its efficiency, readability, and breadth of coverage of a broad range of common foot and ankle problems. … It is unique compared to other books on the foot and ankle in its global and cutting‐edge perspective.” (Mark R Hutchinson, Doody’s Book Reviews, July 05, 2019)

Description

Psychiatric comorbidities such as depression, anxiety and substance use are extremely common amongst people with schizophrenia. They add to poor clinical outcomes and disability, yet are often not at the forefront of the minds of clinicians, who tend to concentrate on assessing and treating the core symptoms of schizophrenia, notably delusions and hallucinations. There is an imperative to assess every patient with schizophrenia for psychiatric comorbidities, as they might masquerade as core psychotic symptoms and also because they warrant treatment in their own right. This volume addresses these issues using a clinical lens informed by the current literature. Published as part of the Oxford Psychiatry Library series, the book serves as a concise and practical reference for busy clinicians.

Description

This book provides a comprehensive overview on sedation and analgesia for the pediatric intensivist. Divided into two primary sections, the text presents a framework on how to care for patients who need sedation, analgesia, and neuromuscular blockade inside the pediatric ICU (PICU), and how to manage procedural sedation in an outpatient setting. The first section focuses on sedation and analgesia for the critically ill child, with an emphasis on analgesics, sedatives, neuromuscular blockade, tolerance and withdrawal, and the PICU environment. The second section centers around procedural sedation, detailing patient selection, pre-sedation assessment, how to choose a sedation regimen, available agents, and nursing considerations.

Mitchell Maltenfort lurched into academic life as a computational
neurobiologist before drifting into the less recherché field of
biostatistics. He knows just enough to make a complete hash out of things
and is creative enough to salvage them afterwards. In his brutish culture,
this tradition is known as “larnin’.” For tax purposes, he is employed as a
biostatistician at CHOP, where he has generated risk scores for
hospitalization, analyzed diagnostic variations among clinics, compared
international trends in childhood mortality, and evaluated patient-reported
outcome scores. Antonia Chen is the Director of Research for Arthroplasty
Services at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an Associate Professor at
Harvard Medical School. She is a past president of the Musculoskeletal
Infection Society (MSIS) and is an active collaborator in research studies
on topics including infection outcomes and opioid use. She often travels
armed with a small and extremely cute dog named Lily who is often the
highlight of research meetings where Lily is in attendance. Camilo Restrepo
is the Associate Director for Research at the Rothman Institute. He is
known informally at RI as “Doctor Data.”

Divided into four sections, the book begins with the impact of sleep problems in children with disabilities and the evaluation of sleep complaints. The next two sections cover the major categories of sleep disorders as they apply in children with disabilities, and specific neurodevelopmental disabilities with their characteristic sleep manifestations. The last section details options for treatment, which include behavioral and environmental strategies, occupational therapy, exercise, and medications. Chapters feature case studies that introduce and reinforce diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Those engaged in the care of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and sleep problems will find this text to be an invaluable guide when assessing and treating sleep disorders.

From the Author Preface This book is meant as a reference providing an overview of the
existing evidence for treatment decisions in gynecologic oncology. As such,
it covers trials addressing treatment modalities for all gynecologic
malignancies including endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer,
vulvar cancer, and gestational trophoblastic neoplasia. We believe that
this synopsis may help approach the complex and ever-growing field of
gynecologic oncology, learn about its diverse treatment options, apply them
in the clinical setting and possibly even identify areas of need for
further clinical research. Malte RenzPalo Alto, California

Description

Diabetes Mellitus (DM, commonly referred to as diabetes, is a metabolic disorder in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period. Lack of sufficient insulin causes presence of excess sugar levels in the blood. As a result the glucose levels in diabetic patients are more than normal ones. It has symptoms like frequent urination, increased hunger, increase thirst and high blood sugar. There are mainly three types of diabetes namely type-1, type-2 and gestational diabetes. Type-1 DM occurs due to immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the beta-cells and Type-2 DM occurs due to insulin resistance. Gestational DM occurs in women during pregnancy due to insulin blocking by pregnancy harmones. Among these three types of DM, type-2 DM is more prevalence, and impacting so many millions of people across the world. Classification and predictive systems are actually reliable in the health care sector to explore hidden patterns in the patients data. These systems aid, medical professionals to enhance their diagnosis, prognosis along with remedy organizing techniques. The less percentage of improvement in classifier predictive accuracy is very important for medical diagnosis purposes where mistakes can cause a lot of damage to patient’s life. Hence, we need a more accurate classification system for prediction of type-2 DM. Although, most of the above classification algorithms are efficient, they failed to provide good accuracy with low computational cost. In this book, we proposed various classification algorithms using soft computing techniques like Neural Networks (NNs), Fuzzy Systems (FS) and Swarm Intelligence (SI). The experimental results demonstrate that these algorithms are able to produce high classification accuracy at less computational cost. The contributions presented in this book shall attempt to address the following objectives using soft computing approaches for identification of diabetes mellitus.

Review Drs. Yellowlees and Shore, two of the leading experts in
telepsychiatry in the world, have written the definitive telepsychiatry
clinical guide for mental health clinicians. They conscientiously organized
the book by working closely with 30 other experts in telepsychiatry and
even served as co-authors of seven of 10 chapters. This book is the

Mental Health Professionals is a practical guide for psychiatrists and
other mental health professionals seeking to exploit the enormous potential
of today’s innovative digital technologies to improve the quality,

technologies — from telephony, smartphones, and apps to e-mail, secure
texting, and videoconferencing — and offers practical advice to clinicians
on how best to make use of these tools to provide high-quality care to
their patients. Beginning with an overview of current psychiatric practice,
the authors cover the broader context of telepsychiatry, including its
history and evidence base; give specific guidance on setting up and
managing a telepsychiatry practice; and discuss in-person, online, and
