⭐¡Excelente libro! Uno de los mejores en su género

⭐As a faculty member at a teaching institution, I have found this book to be an invaluable asset to developing a rich clinical optics curriculum.

⭐I purchased this book to prepare for the NBEO Part I exams (along with the Brooks & Borish text). I utilized this sparingly and only in sections where I needed supplemental information and practice problems. For anyone who struggles with optics, this is a great resource. With specific regards to using this book for exam prep, I found it helpful to use these practice questions to have a better idea of phrasing of terms an questions that may not have been often used during my actual courses.

Clinical Optics 3rd edition by Elkington, Andrew R., Frank, Helena J., Greaney, Michael J. (1999) Paperback () by Andrew R. Elkington PDF

Ebook Info

  • Published:
  • Number of pages:
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 3.66 MB
  • Authors: Andrew R. Elkington

Description

Written to help trainee ophthalmologists, this textbook is now the recognised text on optics for the examinations of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the Royal Surgical Colleges. It approaches the subject from first principles and assumes no previous knowledge of optics. The book has been kept as simple as possible and is liberally complemented with diagrams designed to be easily understood and memorised. Only the most fundamental and clinically useful mathematical formulae are quoted, and the optical principles are applied to clinical situations. Ophthalmology examinations have changed substantially since the last edition was written and a total rewrite of this essential guide has become necessary. The third edition has been made more comprehensive and detailed to keep up with these changes and incorporates three new refractive surgery, contact lenses and lasers. Other new material includes photometry, visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, colour vision, absorptive lenses, fluorescence, ultrasound, and the specular microscope.

⭐Great book

⭐Having spoken with other people who’d studied optics before, their opinions of this book were mixed. Some who’s opinions and study methods I really respected hated it, so I approached it with trepidation. But as I flicked through this 250-page book, I grew very fond of it. And I think you will too.Well-formatted, full of diagrams, it contains just enough mathematical equations to be a little scary without being completely off-putting. The text is concise, if sometimes a little brief, explaining difficult concepts well. Those who did not enjoy it complained that the diagrams were contradictory and confusing – I disagree. Although some of the diagrams are complex, with a little attention and thought they can help to clarify the idea that just sits beyond comprehension through the text alone.I liked it. If you’re doing the Masters at Sydney Uni, it’s a good choice.

⭐i’m sweet on the size and concise format of this book but i am also sour about the outdated nature of the material……it desperately needs an update. but worst of all is the plethora of misleading diagrams, really counterproductive in truth. still, texts on this subject matter are few and most avoid diagrams far more. the scope is broad but the bias is not towards current treatment and instrumentation.

⭐Como libro de texto de óptica geométrica es perfecto

⭐gut strukturiert und aufgebaut

⭐

⭐Must-have for the FRCOphth part 1.I only used this book for optics section and got 95%ish for the optics part of MCQ.

⭐Required reading for FRCOphth Part 1! It is very dull and will most likely require 2 reads to follow. There are plenty of videos that explain some of these concepts far better.

⭐This book is essential for anyone looking to sit their FRCOphth Part 1, for which I am currently studying. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean its any good.Good points:Covers the syllabus (probably… I don’t know for sure yet)Its the only book on the market for its purposeProblems with the book:At times it oversimplifies concepts. I think if you can get more information from wikipedia than a textbook, then the textbook is too simplifiedThe language is at times clumsy and difficult to followErrors – see other amazon review. It does not explain some concepts very well. While making notes from this book, I have required a computer present on standby to google topics for alternate explanations. Often the alternate explanation has been so simple and easy to understand that I find it difficult to fathom why the authors struggle to explain it.They do not provide comprehensive understanding of topics, and fudge from one area to the next, so that it is easy to get lost. When I asked a senior how he was able to use this book to revise, he said “Don’t try and understand it all, just rote learn the book”. Unfortunately I am not that sort of person. I have read and re-read this book from cover to cover, but it really gets under my skin!
