Description

Dry eye syndrome is one of the most common types of ocular surface disorders that significantly worsen the quality of life of tens of millions of people worldwide. In the last decades, researchers worldwide investigated the composition and regulatory mechanisms of the preocular tear film to better understand dry eye syndrome. The tear film, in fact, plays a critical role in maintaining corneal and conjunctival integrity, protecting the eyes against infections, and preserving visual acuity. Recent scientific discoveries helped us gain a more and more accurate understanding of the structure and functioning of the tear film and how disorders in the tear film relate to dry eye syndrome. Today, ophthalmologists benefit from sophisticated diagnostic techniques, and they have at their disposal a wide range of effective therapeutic options to manage dry eye syndrome. This book illustrates the most recent research results in the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye syndrome, and it is of interest to the broad audience that comprises ophthalmologists, researchers, and students.

  • Number of pages: 200 pages
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 8.91 MB
  • Authors: Frank W. Price Jr. MD

Description

Today’s corneal and anterior segment surgeons are in need of a comprehensive text that covers all endothelial keratoplasty procedures, including DSEK, DMEK, and DSAEK. DSEK: What You Need to Know About Endothelial Keratoplasty is the first text to explore the rapid evolvement of endothelial keratoplasty (EK) procedures. Endothelial keratoplasty is part of a revolution in corneal transplant surgery in which surgeons perform disease specific tissue replacement, as opposed to full thickness replacement of the cornea for all conditions. Today, patients are demanding EK procedures such as DSEK, DMEK, and DSAEK, instead of standard transplant methods because these newer methods are safer while the visual recovery is quicker and more predictable. DSEK: What You Need to Know About Endothelial Keratoplasty provides a comprehensive background of EK, where it is today, and where it is headed in the future. Francis W. Price, MD, who was the first to complete DSEK in the United States, along with Marianne Price, PhD, have designed this text to offer a special emphasis on how to perform surgeries along with preventing and managing complications. In addition, a diverse group of contributing authors provides a wide array of insights and tips for better patient outcomes. Features Inside the Book: • Current applications of DSEK and DSAEK • Information on how to perform DMEK, the newest iteration of EK, including a step by step technique and post operative management • Detailed discussion of air management for EK surgeries and how to avoid unintended consequences • New techniques of using glides in the Asian Eye DSEK: What You Need to Know About Endothelial Keratoplasty also includes a DVD with 20 videos demonstrating various techniques revolving around endothelial keratoplasty. Some Videos Include: • DSEK Donor Preparation • DMEK Donor Preparation • Wound construction • Insertion Techniques and Instruments • Graft Positioning and Attachment Techniques • Special Challenges: Tube Trim, Air Behind Iris • DMEK Insertion and Positioning While providing today’s most advanced information regarding endothelial keratoplasty, DSEK: What You Need to Know About Endothelial Keratoplasty is an essential resource for all corneal and anterior segment surgeons.

Dural Cavernous Sinus Fistulas: Diagnosis and Endovascular Therapy (Medical Radiology) 2010th Edition (2010) by Goetz Benndorf PDF

Ebook Info

  • Number of pages: 344 pages
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 7.09 MB
  • Authors: Goetz Benndorf

Description

Dural cavernous sinus fistulas (DCSFs) are benign vascular diseases consisting in an arteriovenous shunt at the cavernous sinus that if misdiagnosed can lead to potentially serious ophthalmologic complications. This volume provides a complete guide to the diagnosis and minimal invasive treatment of DCSFs. After sections on anatomy and classification, etiology and pathogenesis of DCSFs, the symptomatology of the disease is described in detail. The role of modern imaging techniques in the diagnosis of DCSFs is then addressed. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) remains the gold standard for clinical decision-making; here, full consideration is given to both, conventional 2D DSA and rotational 3D angiography. Recent technological advances in this field such as Dual Volume (DV) imaging and angiographic computed tomography (ACT) are considered as well. Due attention is further paid to the use of computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound. Finally, the therapeutic management of DCSFs with emphasis on various transvenous occlusion techniques are discussed in depth. This well-illustrated volume will be invaluable to all who may encounter DCSF in their clinical practice.

⭐Textbook: Dural Cavernous Sinus FistulasReviewer: Joseph J Grenier MD PhDThis textbook is clearly the best book or monograph ever written concerning the history, etiology, pathophysiology, radiology, management, and neurosurgical treatment of carotid cavernous sinus fistulas and dural arteriovenous malformations. Initially, the author does a great job in describing the neurological history and background of CCFs. The treatment involves embolization, or possibly induced coil thrombosis of the relevant vessels. The frank proptosis, the dilation of the retina and ophthalmic vein is accounted for. Next, the author describes the chief players who were responsible in neurology/neurosurgery history that did so well in establishing the treatment for these very difficult and rare pathologies which usually result from trauma to the head and or eye/head. There are several chapters on the radiography, and surgical angiography of these lesions. The catheters and coils used in treatment are discussed in multiple chapters. The tail end of the book goes into alternative treatments including vasoconstrictors and induced hypotension. This book is made for angiographers, neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroophthalmologists, and any student or physician interested in neurology & neurosurgery.

Description

Cerebral visual impairment (also known as cortical visual impairment, or CVI) has become the most common cause of visual impairment in children in the United States and the developed world. Vision and the Brain is a unique and comprehensive sourcebook geared especially to professionals in the field of visual impairment, educators, and families who need to know more about the causes and types of CVI and the best practices for working with affected children. Expert contributors from many countries represent education, occupational therapy, orientation and mobility, ophthalmology, optometry, neuropsychology, psychology, and vision science, and include parents of children with CVI. The book provides an in-depth guide to current knowledge about brain-related vision loss in an accessible form to enable readers to recognize, understand, and assess the behavioral manifestations of damage to the visual brain and develop effective interventions based on identification of the spectrum of individual needs. Chapters are designed to help those working with children with CVI ascertain the nature and degree of visual impairment in each child, so that they can “see” and appreciate the world through the child’s eyes and ensure that every child is served appropriately.

Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐This book more than met my expectations. I am acquainted with one of the editors and know she always produces quality products. The contents are terrific, and the authors of each chapter are well-chosen. I have followed some of the authors over many years and used their materials already — but to have so much information in one volume is terrific.

⭐Excellent comprehensive text for anyone wanting to truly understand the depth of NVI and/or CVI!

⭐The content of the book is outstanding–a “must have for anybody working with children with visual problems. However, the Kikndle version has no page numbers, and many of the tables and charts are hard to view, either because they are split between two pages or do not show up on certain computers. I recommend this book be bought in its hard copy format.

⭐Excellent resource. Would recommend for anyone that would like to read it.

⭐An excellent resource!! Sherri

⭐As a teacher of children with visual impairments, I have worked with many children who I had classified as having cortical visual impairments. However, through the information this book provides, I am now beginning to understand the wider complexity of the disability that the authors term as cerebral visual impairment. This book provides essential and valuable information that can be used by teachers, parents and other rehabilitation and habilitation specialists that support children with cerebral visual impairments. The book includes detailed explanation of the visual system and how it can be affected by damage to the brain, thorough assessment techniques to help establish diagnoses of cerebral visual impairment and strategies on how to overcome the disabling aspects of this condition. Throughout the book, the many contributing authors have provided real life examples with anecdotes from parents, adults and children who live with cerebral visual impairment. This book is essential reading for any professional working in the field of pediatrics.

⭐This book is an essential resource for all who wish to understand more about cerebral visual impairment in children. It provides a comprehensive guide, contributors being experts in many disciplines, whose skills may be a necessary requirement in order that affected children are able to achieve their potential and thrive. Of particular interest are contributions made by parents of children with cerebral visual impairment and also the views of one young man with the condition. This book is suitable for professionals and families alike and helps all to ‘see’ the world from the perspective of the affected child. It should be essential reading for all professionals involved in assessment of young children, not only those whose area of expertise is vision, in order that children with cerebral visual impairment are identified at the earliest opportunity and they and their families are able to quickly access appropriate support.

⭐I did get this book. My mistake. Great information. Thank you

⭐Muito bom o livro! Adorei rapidez da compra e qualidade do produto! Super recomendo! Farei novas compras a partir de agora!

⭐Brilliant just what was missing for all teachers of MDVI children

⭐brilliant book, brilliant lecturer
