Description

This unique text presents challenging questions covering common and important ophthalmology, dermatology and ENT topics. The comprehensive answers make it an all-in-one study and revision tool for busy students. These specialties are commonly misunderstood by medical students and clinical trainees, and are known to be areas in which valuable marks are frequently lost in written and clinical examinations.EMQs in Ophthalmology, Dermatology and ENT is ideal for medical students wanting to consolidate their knowledge. It is also highly recommended for general practitioners, core medical and core surgical trainees, including candidates for the MRCGP, MRCP and MRCS examinations. Junior ophthalmology, dermatology and ENT trainees, including candidates for the Duke-Elder Exam in Ophthalmology, will find the self-testing EMQ format crucial in exam preparations. From the Foreword by Professor Janice: The authors have done a great job of covering the very wide syllabuses for these subjects while at the same time making reading the book such a pleasurable learning experience. Junior doctors and medical students can use this book to give them a comprehensive, yet adequately detailed, insight into these specialties.

⭐Muy util para el examen ICO basic sciences. Recomendado.

⭐For ICO exam

⭐good book to practice questions and aid with learningshould not be the only question book used

⭐if the answers provided at the end of each section instead of a separate section at the end of the book will be much better

⭐excellent resource for Part 1 exams….definitely highly recommended.

⭐Fits for its purpose

⭐Great !

⭐pros: the questions are categorised according to the chapters, which is very good for revisioncons: some of the answers are not matching with the explanation being given.

⭐Excellent collection of questions with clear explanation

⭐I found this book extremely useful in passing the FRCOphth part 1. There are few self-assessment books available to aid preparation for this exam, and to my knowledge this is the only one that closely matches the new format. The chapters cover the majority of the syllabus with a good balance of simple to more demanding questions. Of course as with any question book, more in-depth background reading from one of the well-established texts is probably necessary to maximise your chances of passing, but most of the main concepts and facts seem to be covered. As well as being well-constructed, the questions were very relevant and there were a number of questions that came up in the exam which I had first learned about from this book.As noted by other reviewers, there are some mistakes in the answers, however these were obvious typo errors which could easily be spotted by simply reading the explanation texts. I did not find this an issue.I would highly recommend this book to anyone preparing for the FRCOphth part 1. As someone with no prior ophthalmology experience I personally found it particularly useful in directing my revision to the most important topics, along with Ferris’ MCQ book, before wading through the thicker texts.

⭐EBOD exams

⭐Extremely valuable tool for Part 1 revision with good explanations but sadly there are a lot of mistakes in the answers. I have counted about a dozen incorrect T/F’s so far which is really infuriating when you are testing yourself. Generally the explanations are sufficient to pick up on these but there are times when you need to further crossreference. Needs a proper proofread for subsequent editions.

⭐This book is useful for FRCOPHTH part 1 revision but be aware that it contains many mistakes in the answer sections, often with the answer explanation contradicting the stated answer. This becomes quite frustrating as it occurs throughout the book.

Mayo Clinic Guide To Better Vision, 3rd Ed: Preventing and treating disease to save your eyesight (2021) by Sophie J. Bakri M.D. EPUB

Ebook Info

  • Published: 2021
  • Number of pages: 232 pages
  • Format: EPUB
  • File Size: 20.21 MB
  • Authors: Sophie J. Bakri M.D.

Description

Having good eyesight is essential for almost every activity we do, but an estimated 93 million adults in the United States are at high risk for serious vision loss. Mayo Clinic Guide to Better Vision is a comprehensive guide to understanding common vision problems, preventing age-related eye disorders, and keeping your eyes healthy at every stage of life.As we age, our eyes become more susceptible to common conditions like age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and cataracts. Even younger adults can suffer from painful eye conditions like dry eyes, infected tear ducts, styes, floaters, pink eye, and eye strain. More than 170 million Americans wear eyeglasses or contact lenses to correct vision problems, and those number is likely to increase. Fortunately, many of these conditions are preventable, treatable, and even reversible. In Mayo Clinic Guide to Better Vision, Dr. Sophie Bakri, M.D. walks readers through the diagnoses and treatment options associated with these common eye issues, as well as preventive measures for protecting your eyes from eye diseases, retinal disorders, and permanent vision loss. She also shares the best techniques for correcting common vision problems, and provides tools for those currently living with low vision.Presented through clear, conversational explanations paired with detailed illustrations, photographs, and tables, this book is a practical resource for making the most of your vision by keeping your eyes healthy and your eyesight sharp at any age.

⭐Very informative with great pictorial views of the eye.

⭐Some excellent advice. General overall for eye health and vision. But not much in actual recommendations. E.g. supplements but not amounts. It is a great resource for deciphering before or after a medical visit. I will look at it befor eye exams, and if there are any details i need to remember. I have started ‘age’ related therapies too.

⭐I have used a library copy of the 2014 edition of this book in doing preparation for a low vision support group that I facilitate. As an available resource, owning it made sense. Amazon search put this newer 2021 3rd edition as the updated version. I noted that it had switched from hardcover to paperback, but what wasn’t obvious was that the size was changed to smaller pages and print, Not what people with low vision needs are going to find reader friendly. The reviews were minimal and I can see why. Edition 3 is not an improvement but a mistake on the part of the author and the publisher. Buyer beware!

⭐I have several Mayo books. Overall this was an informative book. However, it had little information on cornea problems. It was very informative about macular degeneration and other eye issues.

⭐As a nurse I expected more information that I didn’t already know
