Recurrent Erosion Syndrome and Epithelial Edema: In Vivo Morphology in the Human Cornea 2015th Edition (2015) by Helena M. Tabery PDF

Ebook Info

  • Published: 2015

  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 23.45 MB
  • Authors: Helena M. Tabery

Description

This book presents high-magnification in vivo images of the morphology of recurrent corneal erosions and epithelial edema as captured by non-contact photomicrography. Part I of the book, on recurrent erosion syndrome, displays images covering a broad spectrum of epithelial changes, including manifestations of the ongoing underlying pathological process and epithelial activity aimed at elimination of abnormal elements or repair. The dynamics of the interplay between these opposing forces are captured in sequential photographs that aid interpretation. Part II of the book demonstrates typical features of corneal epithelial edema and also covers the contemporaneous occurrence, and dynamics, of phenomena indistinguishable from those commonly seen in recurrent erosion syndrome. Both parts include case reports illustrating typical features and documenting variability in symptoms and findings over time. The presented morphology will facilitate understanding of clinical appearances and assist in differential diagnosis.

Description

Reflections of a Pupil weaves together the rich tapestry of lessons that Dr. R. Rishi Gupta has learned from his unique journey through the art and science of medicine. Although trainees and junior attendings in the field of ophthalmology have ready access to the technical aspects of their field, this invaluable text will help these professionals focus on many other issues equally vital to their success: resiliency, communication, mentorship, ethics, and life-long learning. Dr. Gupta offers short, easy-to-read stories and case studies (with no memorization involved) that will resonate deeply with physicians. Readers will discover how it is possible to juggle the surgical, clinical, practical, and interpersonal demands of their specialties—while still maintaining a positive work-life balance. Written from the perspective of a peer, Reflections of a Pupil challenges readers to find the lessons that life and their profession continuously present for them. Dr. Gupta offers medical students, residents, and junior attendings easily digestible food for thought about how to grow into the physicians they have always wanted to be.

⭐If everyone reflected on their life and years of training in the same way Dr. Gupta has, medicine would be a much better place. Instead, we have a tossed salad system for patients and doctors that hopes to inefficiently pass on even half the pearls from this book. If you are a medical student thinking about doing ophthalmology, an ophthalmology resident, a young ophthalmologist, a middle-aged ophthalmologist, or an old ophthalmologist—you need to read this book. There’s something for everyone. It is well-written, thoughtful, and incredibly humanizing. You may think you’re doing something effectively, but Dr. Gupta might be doing (or phrasing it) better! He is no doubt a fantastic teacher. Let him hold your hand and show you a thing or two, to learn something, to be reminded of why you care for patients, or to watch the inner wheels and cogs move in a really fascinating individual and colleague.

⭐A must read for all med students, ophthalmology residents and fellows!Michael Politis MDVR fellowMcGill University

⭐This practical tapestry of short passages presents the reader with all the adages of our wise mentors in a concise and ridiculously easy read. With sound advice on every page, and a text worth it’s weight in gold, Reflections of a Pupil comes in at a true discount. I strongly recommend this book to anyone in any stage of ophthalmic training, and especially to those lucky enough to enter the best field in medicine.

⭐Reflections of a Pupil comprises a curated series of valuable stories, lessons, and personal anecdotes that Dr. Gupta shares from his time as a medical student, resident, fellow, and now practicing vitreoretinal surgeon. The writing is excellent; it feels as though you are listening to him recount the stories in real life! The chapters in the book are distinct vignettes, so it does not have to be read in a short period of time. I would read a few chapters a day and annotate the main points in the margins. Though the book is aimed at those in the medical field, much of the content is relevant, applicable, and beneficial for everyone. I bought the book thinking it would contain mostly topics related to ophthalmology, but it went beyond that. It has sage advice about subjects like professional relationships, work-life balance, and choosing wisely given the finite time we have in a fleeting world. There are books I wish I could read again for the first time; this is one of them. It has many pearls of wisdom gained over many years of experience and truly is a page turner.

⭐This book is by an ophthalmologist for an ophthalmologist. The reader, especially a senior ophthalmologists will easily identify with the various situations narrated by the author. The students and junior ophthalmologists can have a sneak peek into their future journey in ophthalmology.Dr Rishi has written the book in multiple short chapters. Each chapter is description of a situation and it ends with a take home message that reinforces the positivity, inspiration and exemplary behaviors in the life of an ophthalmologist.Congratulations Dr Gupta. Your book is a ‘must ‘ read and I recommend it to every ophthalmologist.

⭐Best book for opthalmology

⭐What an excellent depiction about the life of a medical student, resident, and attending staff. Dr. Gupta captures the esssence of what all medical students experience during their training – from the ethical dilemmas, to disclosure of errors, to the commitment of excellence, all the while keeping in mind why we all started this journey – that we want to help others. I emphatically recommend this book to ANY medical student, regardless of if they want to pursue opthomolagy or not. It is an easy read, disarmingly genuine, and a must-read for all trainees, and staff. I am an attending, and I still found that this book gave me ‘pearls’ to apply to my practice. Way to go Dr. Gupta. Excellent book.
