Visual Optics: Lectures in Optics, Volume 4 (Lectures in Optics, 4) 1st Edition (2022) by George Asimellis PDF

Ebook Info

  • Published: 2022
  • Number of pages: 720 pages
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 43.54 MB
  • Authors: George Asimellis

Description

This fourth volume in the series Lectures in Optics provides comprehensive coverage of Visual Optics, which is the field of optics as applied to the function of the eye, a magnificent and highly complicated optical system. The optics part of vision in a ‘well-performing’ eye pertains to the effects responsible for formation and initial detection of the retinal image―the picture of the world as it is projected onto the photosensitive layer of the eye, the retina. The book presents the necessary concepts and definitions that explain retinal image properties, including aspects such as visual acuity and color perception. It discusses the optics of the eye in the presence of refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, certain limitations to vision such as accommodation and near vision, and effects of aging on vision such as presbyopia and low vision. Finally, chapters devoted to ophthalmic optics and prismatic effects provide in-depth coverage of the optics involved in the correction of refractive vision disorders.

⭐Visual Prosthetics: Physiology, Bioengineering, & RehabilitationSpringer New YorkJoseph J Grenier MD PhDThis is an excellent up to date reference on vision physiology and medicine. Retinal research, optic nerve investigations, lateral geniculate nucleus, and cortical prostheses are covered comprehensively. The comparative engineering and electrophysiology of the various single and multiple electrode arrays are studied, relating the simple and complex images. The history of vision prosthetics is covered back to the 1960s up to 2011. Phosphene images, involving single and multiple dots, and more complex derivatives thereof, are used: facial recognition, bars & gratings, and pattern analyzers included. Electrodes, amplifiers, recordings, are covered. There is an attempt to relate all of this to visual training and recovery. I highly recommend this book to students, vision scientists, bioengineers, research fellows, neurosurgeons, and neurophysiologists.

⭐Dr. Duckman, author and SUNY Optometry professor, requires you to purchase this book. However, there are some in the library if you don’t want to spend the money on it. Since I will be pursuing Pediatric Optometry, I chose to purchase this book. I found it very helpful. Some of the chapters read exactly how he lectures, has if this book is his script and Room 103 is his stage. :)But it’s a great reference, with more information than you are given in class. If you are planning on having Ped’s be a large part of you practice someday, this is a smart purchase.Just to give you a heads up, almost every chapter is written by a SUNY Professor. Dr. Duckman didn’t have to look far to find authors. It’s awesome!

⭐Great addition to Pediatrics for the Optometrist course as a second year optometry student.

Vitreoretinal Surgery (2013) by Thomas H. Williamson PDF

Ebook Info

  • Published: 2013
  • Number of pages: 443 pages
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 39.49 MB

Description

This is the second edition of a highly successful textbook that in many areas has become the preferred manual of vitreoretinal surgery. It provides a complete guide to all common vitreoretinal surgical procedures and also covers diagnosis and other aspects of management. The book is designed to allow a trainee or professional vitreoretinal surgeon to determine the best methodology in individual cases. In order to acquaint the reader with different opinions, “surgical pearls” have been contributed by other international experts in the field. These have proved popular in the past as an illustration of alternative methods, without detracting from the overall method described by the main author. Vitreoretinal Surgery will continue to prove particularly popular amongst trainees, but will also be of value to practicing professionals who need help in the management of difficult and rare cases. The text is backed up by the provision of videos of some aspects of the surgery.

⭐Absolutely fantastic book. Truly to-the-point, extremely practical, and easy to read. Numerous figures and schematics helps in understating problems faced by retinal surgeons. New imaging technologies and emerging surgical techniques are discussed where necessary. I had the first edition; loved it. I bought the second one and love it even more.

⭐The book is excellent, as expected.Amazon was not this time – I have just re-ordered the book for the third time as the DVD was not included with the first two orders.

⭐Great and oustanding reading source for VR fellows. Best in my personal opinion.

⭐Great book, excellent tips for budding VR surgeons.

⭐Light reading and easy to coprehend

⭐I am writing this review as a UK ophthalmologist. I think the text of the book is excellent, particularly as it seems to be designed to give a surgeon in training a quick way of understanding the surgical side with excellent tips. My reason for only giving 3 stars is the poor audio recordings on the DVD, which are essentially amateurish and make them not pleasurable to watch through. I don’t understand why they were not recorded or re-recorded professionally, given the expensive price of the book and DVD package. However, I guess we have to be thankful that a DVD was included at all?
