Editorial Reviews: Review Unparalleled, world-renowned, clinically relevant anatomic illustration ―now available in a systems-based organization About the Author Frank H. Netter was born in New York City in 1906. He studied art at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design before entering medical school at New York University, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1931. During his student years, Dr. Netter’s notebook sketches attracted the attention of the medical faculty and other physicians, allowing him to augment his income by illustrating articles and textbooks. He continued illustrating as a sideline after establishing a surgical practice in 1933, but he ultimately opted to give up his practice in favor of a full-time commitment to art. After service in the United States Army during World War II, Dr. Netter began his long collaboration with the CIBA Pharmaceutical Company (now Novartis Pharmaceuticals). This 45-year partnership resulted in the production of the extraordinary collection of medical art so familiar to physicians and other medical professionals worldwide. Icon Learning Systems acquired the Netter Collection in July 2000 and continued to update Dr. Netter’s original paintings and to add newly commissioned paintings by artists trained in the style of Dr. Netter. In 2005, Elsevier Inc. purchased the Netter Collection and all publications from Icon Learning Systems. There are now over 50 publications featuring the art of Dr. Netter available through Elsevier Inc.Dr. Netter’s works are among the finest examples of the use of illustration in the teaching of medical concepts. The 13-book Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations, which includes the greater part of the more than 20,000 paintings created by Dr. Netter, became and remains one of the most famous medical works ever published. The Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy, first published in 1989, presents the anatomic paintings from the Netter Collection. Now translated into 16 languages, it is the anatomy atlas of choice among medical and health professions students the world over. The Netter illustrations are appreciated not only for their aesthetic qualities, but, more importantly, for their intellectual content. As Dr. Netter wrote in 1949 “clarification of a subject is the aim and goal of illustration. No matter how beautifully painted, how delicately and subtly rendered a subject may be, it is of little value as a medical illustration if it does not serve to make clear some medical point.” Dr. Netter’s planning, conception, point of view, and approach are what inform his paintings and what make them so intellectually valuable.Frank H. Netter, MD, physician and artist, died in 1991.

Description

In the United States alone, more than 38 percent of people use Alternative Medicine to treat and prevent medical issues and more than 50 percent of people have tried Alternative Medicine at some point in their life. But because some people don’t feel their doctors see those methods as legitimate, patients often turn to unreliable sources such as the internet, celebrities, etc. for guidance. With so much misinformation out there, how does anyone know which advice to follow and what actually works? In this book, Dr. Mel Borins answers these questions using the latest scientific research and double-blind studies to educate patients and physicians alike on which alternative treatments work, which don’t, and why. And more importantly, it teaches them how to safely use these alternative treatments, as a reputable source of information to supplement their conventional medicine treatments. Written in clear, accessible language for the layperson while providing citations to full studies for the medical professional, the book covers traditional healing and herbal remedies, physical therapies, psychological therapies, and natural health products–making it perfect for alternative medicine skeptics looking for hard evidence, doctors of conventional medicine seeking to understand why alternative therapies work, and for those open to alternative medicine but who want to understand the benefits and dangers; these include America’s 78 million Baby Boomers who purchase 77 percent of all prescriptions drugs and are seeking ways to treat their health issues without causing more of them.

Description

Dentistry is the practice of evaluating, diagnosing, preventing, and treating diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity, maxillofacial area, and related structures. This includes both nonsurgical and surgical procedures. Dentistry is provided by dentists who have received education, training, and experience in professional ethics and applicable laws. AI has proven its ability to surpass human expertise through its remarkable achievements. The development of AI requires the simultaneous progress of computer software, hardware computing power, and large input data databases. Training the algorithm for machine learning tasks using 3D models requires a significant amount of computational power. When comparing video-based and 2D image tasks to working directly with 3D data for regression and classification tasks, it becomes apparent that the current computational capacity is still insufficient. It is not possible to load millions of point clouds or meshes onto the GPU simultaneously in a 3D model. To reduce the amount of computational work required, 3D model representations and sampling techniques (such as voxels, mesh, point cloud, and depth map) are commonly used, even though this may result in a loss of certain details. In addition to the significant amount of digitized medical data that was previously inaccessible and used to train machine-learning models, the progress of wearable technology also contributes to the gathering of large-scale medical data. Hence, the advancement of AI applications heavily relies on the interplay between the digitalized training data, processing power, and AI algorithms. Health professionals regard both Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) and Evidence-Based Dentistry (EBD) as the highest benchmarks for decision-making. Health professionals may consider this as a valuable supplementary tool in different phases of clinical cases, as trained using human expertise and machine learning models. Machine learning has the potential to assist medical professionals in efficiently storing and analyzing patient-related data, as well as keeping up with the latest medical knowledge. Machine learning algorithms excel at detecting patterns in patient diagnostic data, improving current medical treatments, discovering new medications, enabling precision medicine, and minimizing human mistakes. Although both EBD and ML have similar objectives, ML can achieve them more efficiently by utilizing existing data, whereas EBD usually relies on randomized controlled trials.

Description

The Banerji Protocols is a new method of treatment using homeopathic medicines. Specific medicines are prescribed for specific diseases. Diseases are diagnosed using modern/state of the art methods. This is done because modern diagnostic approaches incorporate and help in the selection of medicines so that specific medicines could be easily prescribed for specific diseases. This is not practiced in classical homeopathy. The concept of specific homeopathic medicine for a disease based on symptoms was first perceived and practiced by Late Dr. Pareshnath Banerji. With the passage of time and the availability of new diagnostic tools like Ultrasonography, MRIs, cancer markers and other advanced tests, we were able to further streamline the treatment protocols accurately. The efficiency of this streamlining is reflected by the encouraging results of The Banerji Protocols. In The Banerji Protocols of treatment, mixtures of remedies or frequent repetitions of the remedies are used when require
