His special fields of interest are oncologic and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck, including skull base Surgery, as well as bone regeneration. He has lectured and published widely in these fields and has been an invited professor at universities around the world. Dr. Acero was President of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) in 2016–17 and is a past Chairman of the IAOMS Education Committee. He is currently President of the European Association of Cranio-maxillo-facial Surgery and has served as the Association’s Education and Training Officer. Furthermore, he is a past Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and past President of the Spanish Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Acero has received various awards, including the Humanitarian Award of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in 2016.
