All of us have seen a sea of changes taking place in the art of cataract surgery in last 2 decades. Indian surgeons have earned a great respect internationally for their surgical skills and innovations. The backlog of cataract blindness in our country has been so successfully tackled by our surgeons and NGOs that our volume practice is appreciated by all. We are the world leaders in this aspect and many countries look up to us to guide them and train them in this regard. Most of us in our country have to play a dual role of running a private clinic and do some community outreach programme. Hence naturally it is necessary to keep a perfect blend of SICS and Phaco in our practice. It is indeed a task keeping track of all the new innovations happening in the technology of the machine and procedures. Very often when you have learnt and mastered one step or procedure its time for learning a new one. Taking all these things into consideration Dr. Ravi Kumar Reddy for whom I have greatest respect as a good clinician, administrator and a fine human being, has come out with an excellent Atlas on Cataract Surgery which is specially aimed at helping upcoming ophthalmologist and ophthalmology in transition. There are books of such types written by foreign authors, but what is important is that this book is written by one of us and it is easy for us to relate to his way of thinking. He is fully aware of ground realities and the type of difficulties doctor faces in his/her stressful transition. Dr. Reddy has taken pains to look at this subject from all the angles so as to make it useful and practical. I congratulate him on taking up this important task in spite of his tight schedule to help postgraduates and ophthalmologists in transition. Finally I strongly recommend this book to anybody who wants to improve his cataract surgery. Suhas Haldipurkar
