Description

This retrospective study examines the correlation between cataract grading using the Lens Opacities Classification System III (LOCS III) and intraoperative characteristics (phacoemulsification time and average power) recorded during phacoemulsification surgery. It concluded that nuclear opalescence (NO) and nuclear color (NC) scales correlated positively with required phacoemulsification energy, demonstrating the system’s utility in helping surgeons anticipate surgical difficulty.
