A non-systematic review examining the controversial role of prophylactic antibiotics in acute pancreatitis to prevent secondary infection and reduce morbidity and mortality. The study found mixed evidence, often failing to demonstrate benefit from routine use. It concludes that antibiotics should be reserved for patients who develop sepsis, infected necrosis, or systemic inflammatory response syndrome.
