Optical Coherence Tomographic Patterns of Diabetic Macular Edema (2006) BRIAN Y. KIM, MD

Description

This study describes the various morphologic patterns of diabetic macular edema (DME) demonstrated by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and correlates them with visual acuity. Five distinct patterns were identified: diffuse retinal thickening (DRT), cystoid macular edema (CME), serous retinal detachment (SRD), posterior hyaloidal traction (PHT) without traction retinal detachment (TRD), and PHT with TRD. Results show a significant correlation between increased retinal thickness and specific OCT patterns (CME and PHT without TRD) with worse visual acuity.
