Description

Neurotrophic keratopathy is a rare degenerative corneal disease induced by an impairment of the trigeminal nerve, leading to decreased or absent corneal sensation. This report reviews the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and therapeutic aspects of the disease, emphasizing the role of accurate history, clinical examination, and evaluation of corneal sensitivity for prompt diagnosis, and presenting specific medical and surgical treatments.
