This study compares the efficacy and safety of nonpenetrating very deep sclerectomy (NPVDS) with a hyaluronic acid implant to trabeculectomy (TB) in 78 eyes of patients with medically uncontrolled glaucoma. Results at 24 months showed comparable success rates (around 92-94%) for both procedures in achieving IOP less than or equal to 21 mmHg. The conclusion is that NPVDS is an effective surgical option associated with a lower risk of complications, especially cataract progression, compared to TB.
