This original research compares children with a rare EEG pattern (Bi-Frontal Spikes with Simultaneous Bi-Occipital Positivity, BFOD) to controls to determine its clinical significance. The study found that children with BFOD had significantly higher rates of severe developmental delay, considerable motor deficits (GMFCS β₯4), and structural/multilobar brain abnormalities. The conclusion suggests that BFOD is a marker of severe underlying brain dysfunction and is not benign when encountered on routine EEG review.
