This study details the optimization of a long-term porcine corneal culture assay used as an in vitro model for evaluating potential eye irritation and post-treatment recovery following chemical exposures (e.g., SLS, EtOH). The methodology involves culturing corneas for up to 120 hours, treating them, and observing recovery via histological examination (H&E stain). The results confirm the viability of the culture system and demonstrate the observation of epithelial cell regeneration and recovery, validating the model's potential for toxicology assessment where depth of injury is reversible.
