What a wonderful book. I will be starting my residency in Neurology in July and though my first year is in internal medicine I felt like I should at least be familiar with the neurological examination. During my medical school rotation In Neurology, I would often find myself asking patients questions like “what is this called” and “what are the similarities between these objects” without having a clear understanding as to why I was doing so. This book cleared everything up for me. It’s not a heavy textbook but this small book is packed with useful information. It is organized effectively to help you piece things together yourself. You’ll find yourself saying ahhhhh that’s why so many times. When I find a good book in something I hold onto it. This will stay in my pocket for reference for years to come. I’d recommend this to any MS3 or PGY2 resident looking to improve their understanding of and skills a in neurological examination

“This book, which I can thoroughly recommend, is certainly revealing and contains much that is critical for caregivers to know. I believe every professional working with those in dementia and their caregivers would do well to have a copy. The book lends itself to reading straight through and then to being used as and when it is necessary as a reference. It is easy to find specific information as the framework is helpful and logical. The sections on the spiritual needs of those with dementia were welcome topics… I wish I had had this book when I set out on the caregiving journey.” –International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry (International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry 20100503)

I have read several books and articles on the subject but had not found any as helpful. The style of describing the specific setting shared by father and daughter as the disease progressed was very informative and provided a setting to better understand the many changes that accompany a single event like forgetting one’s favorite meal. Alzheimer is a horribly progressive disease and it is helpful to know what is coming next. Knowledge is power and being prepared for progressive loss of control eases the caregiver through the stages. I was able to connect with the writer and found her observations to be credible and appropriate. This read may be better suited to a family member than a clinician but anyone will benefit from reading this. My sympathy goes to anyone who is living this experience. Learn as much as possible and try not to be surprised by what you experience tomorrow.

Personally, I impress the feature of this book. It is an intention of the authors to present Palliative medicine in a “light” – simple, concise. We could not expect comprehensiveness from this book since it was indicated “Practical guide” for ” General Family Practice”. Anyway, it could be better if there are additional reading references for more details. By conclusion, this book is nice, at least in clinical part, for who provide end of life care but not yet experts.
