Description

We wish to congratulate Drs. Torres-Corzo, Rangel-Castilla and Nakaji for their excellent work, which is expected to become a reference in this field. We highly recommend Neuroendoscopic Surgery and we have no doubts that it will prove to be useful among its readership of neurosurgical expertise and also among the whole scientific community. — Acta Neurochirugica

“I enjoyed reading this book and will keep it available in our department for teaching and as a useful reference. … The illustrations and neuro-imaging are generally of a high standard. This book is likely to be of interest to a wide range of readers, clinicians, clinical radiologists and anyone commencing research in dementia.” (Andrew D MacKinnon, RAD Magazine, October, 2018)

Description

Existentialisms arise when the foundations of being, such as meaning, morals, and purpose come under assault. In the first-wave of existentialism, writings typified by Kierkegaard, Dostoevsky, and Nietzsche concerned the increasingly apparent inability of religion, and religious tradition, to support a foundation of being. Second-wave existentialism, personified philosophically by Sartre, Camus, and de Beauvoir, developed in response to similar realizations about the overly optimistic Enlightenment vision of reason and the common good.

Description

This book describes the latest modalities such as tau PET imaging for diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and also provides information on handling and analyzing imaging data that is not found in other books. In addition, it introduces routine imaging studies in the management of dementia in Japan. The prevalence of dementia has increased over the past few decades, either because of greater awareness and more accurate diagnosis, or because increased longevity has created a larger population of the elderly, the age group most commonly affected. Although only clinical assessment can lead to a diagnosis of dementia, neuroimaging in dementia is recommended by most clinical guidelines, and its adjunct role has traditionally been to exclude a mass lesion rather than to support a specific diagnosis. Neuroimaging may be also helpful for developing new strategies to achieve diagnoses as early as possible for therapies aimed at slowing the progression of neurodegenerative diseases manifesting dementia. Under these conditions, all clinicians and researchers who are involved in neuroimaging for dementia should decide which patients to scan, when imaging patients is most useful, which modality to use, how to handle imaging data from many institutions, and which analytical tool to use. This edition comprises contributions from leading Japanese experts in their fields.

Reviews

“This book will appeal to neuroradiologists, neurologists and neurosurgeons alike. It is an excellent cross-over book for these clinical neuroscience disciplines, with detailed and informatively-labelled neuroradiological images … . I have found it to be an excellent aide-memoire to have at my side when reporting and think it would be a valuable addition to any radiology department regularly performing neuroradiological cranial MRI.” (Dr Samantha Mills, RAD Magazine, April 2018)

Description

This book reviews the imaging features associated with selected classes of pharmaceuticals and drugs on brain, head and neck, and spine and explains the implications of the imaging findings for the neuroradiologist and the clinician. Some agents produce characteristic abnormalities with distinctive imaging features, while others have a spectrum of manifestations on imaging. Still further agents produce rather nonspecific changes on imaging, requiring a differential diagnosis. In this book, informative cases are depicted by rich images, with concise accompanying explanatory text that reviews the class of agent and the mechanism of action and discusses image interpretation and its significance.

Description

This book combines classic MR anatomy with current understanding of human brain function. Recent advances in neuroscience have highlighted the importance of correlating brain anatomy with underlying brain function, since the brain contains a highly sophisticated organization of anatomical and functional relationships that are not readily “visible” with standard imaging. The use of magnetic resonance imaging is rapidly increasing in the field of neuroscience, and remains at the forefront for offering insights into the normal and pathologic structure and function of the human brain.

“An excellent addition to the library of anyone who needs to develop residency lectures or handouts (as well as, of course, to any practicing clinician). … The level of detail is much greater than that of a pocketbook … and the detail is meaty. The real prize is the many tables and lists, some taken directly or adapted from source material and others created by the authors … . ” (Theresa M. van der Vlugt, Annals of Emergency Medicine, Vol. 72 (3), September, 2018)

Description

This book is an unparalleled resource on neurologic emergencies. Most books on neurologic emergencies focus on treatment of a disease after it is diagnosed (such as stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, or meningitis). There are but a few books that focus on how to evaluate the patient with a neurologic symptom, before the diagnosis is made. This is the area that frontline providers, including emergency physicians, family physicians, primary care physicians, hospitalists, urgent care physicians, and midlevel providers struggle with. This book is written by clinicians with a clear understanding of the needs of non-neurologists in the front lines of medicine. The editors are board-certified emergency physicians with fellowship training and expertise in neurologic emergencies.
