Description

Hematology is one of the rapidly expanding fields of medicine and emerging as a clinical specialty in its own right. Hematology is difficult to teach at the undergraduate level, as it is a part of the curriculum in Pathology, during which undergraduate students do not have enough exposure to diseases of blood. This results in less attention to hematological diseases at undergraduate level. There are many hematology textbooks, but undergraduates face difficulties to refresh their knowledge of hematology during examinations. This encouraged us to write a book to fill the niche, to provide basic information to an undergraduate in a nutshell. With this view in mind, Rapid Review of Hematology is intended for the undergraduates from medical, dental and paramedical fields. Most students are fundamentally “visually oriented”. As the saying “one picture worth thousand words”, it encouraged us to provide many illustrations (e.g. etiopathogenesis, clinical presentation, complications, peripheral blood smear and other relevant laboratory tests).

Description

This book is a comprehensive guide to rare tumors and tumor-like conditions of the urinary system and male genital organs. It comprises five chapters, devoted to the kidney, bladder, prostate, testes, and penis. Each chapter begins with a brief overview of “common” tumors and tumor-like conditions and with a section on the classification of both common and rare entities. The main clinical, pathological, immunohistochemical, and molecular findings for each rare tumor or tumor-like condition are then described and discussed. Significant characteristics are also documented by representative high-quality illustrations, with emphasis on those aspects of most relevance to differential diagnosis. In addition, prognostic features are fully covered. Urological Pathology: Rare Tumors and Tumor-Like Conditions will be ideal source of core information and practical guidance for residents, fellows, pathologists, urologists, and oncologists.

This is an excellent textbook on multimodality approaches for cancers of head and neck, brain, GI Tract, Lung, cervix, ovary, prostate, bones, etc. Comparison between surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hyperthermia, and combined modalities are considered carefully. Accelerators, proton beam, Conformal, brachytherapy, Intensity modulated treatments are compared to the older literature. The conjoint combined approach with chemo is discussed. Diagnosis, imaging, epidemiology, treatment, outcomes, and complications are compared with the strict surgical approaches. I recommend this book for radiation therapists and oncologists.

Description

This book documents the most important clinicopathological features of rare thyroid tumours with an emphasis (and ample documentation) on their histological and immunohistochemical aspects. Whenever necessary, namely for differential diagnosis and/or therapy purposes, molecular data are also highlighted. In order to understand the histogenesis of rare lesions and to be able to make a differential diagnosis, the editors use the WHO book for endocrine tumours (in preparation) as a framework for classifying thyroid tumours. In addition to characterizing the main histotypes of thyroid tumours, this book also provides detailed information on how to approach the diagnosis of tumours according to the major morphological/immunohistochemical characteristics, the predominant morphology and whether or not they are hereditary. This book is a valuable learning tool for those involved in the differential diagnosis of thyroid lesions.

Description

This book, now in its second edition, provides a comprehensive overview of current re-irradiation strategies, with detailed discussion of re-irradiation methods, technical aspects, the role of combined therapy with anticancer drugs and hyperthermia, and normal tissue tolerance. In addition, disease specific chapters document recent clinical results and future research directions. All chapters from the first edition have been revised and updated to take account of the latest developments and research findings, including those from prospective studies. Due attention is paid to the exciting developments in the fields of proton irradiation and frameless image-guided ablative radiotherapy. The book documents fully how refined combined modality approaches and significant technical advances in radiation treatment planning and delivery have facilitated the re-irradiation of previously exposed volumes, allowing both palliative and curative approaches to be pursued at various disease sites. Professionals involved in radiation treatment planning and multimodal oncology treatment will find it to be an invaluable aid in understanding the benefits and limitations of re-irradiation and in designing prospective trials.

Description

Reading EEGs: A Practical Approach focuses on pattern recognition and pattern comparison. The concepts of pattern recognition are developed in a logical fashion based on appearance rather than disease process. The book teaches waveform recognition so that the reader can generate a differential diagnosis based on that recognition. This book also incorporates a question-and-answer format that is effective for students at multiple levels of training. A unique feature of the book is that it follows a teaching methodology in which concepts are developed sequentially and logically.
