This is a concise, updated, and well-written book that justifies replacing the previous edition. It is definitively useful and exhibits the same high quality of other currently available books in hepatology. I know I will consult my copy on a frequent basis — an unusual event in this era of online material. (Doody’s, 16 March 2012)

I got the edition of the book I wanted however it came in black and white. I am not sure why a physiology book would be sold in black and white especially because when you “review” the book it is shown in color. Additionally, it has creases on the cover that indicate it may not be new (which is what I ordered it as). I give it three stars because the book itself is excellent, just the quality and presentation are not what I expected. Also, it took the seller a week from when I ordered it before they sent it and another week and a half before it arrived. Overall, average quality of service.

Description

FUNDAMENTALS OF HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY provides clear, current, concise, clinically oriented coverage of physiology. It focuses on the mechanisms of body function from cells to systems and is organized around the central theme of homeostasis — how the body meets changing demands while maintaining the internal constancy necessary for all cells and organs to function. Many analogies and frequent references to everyday experiences help you relate to the physiology concepts presented. Offering helpful art and pedagogical features, Sherwood promotes understanding of the basic principles and concepts of physiology rather than memorization of details and provides you with a foundation for a future career in the health professions.

Now in a fully updated Fifth Edition, Shnider and Levinson’s Anesthesia for Obstetrics, continues to provide the comprehensive coverage that has made it the leading reference in the field. The rising number of Cesarean births and the more advanced age of first-time mothers in the United States have brought with them an increased risk for complications, making the role of the obstetric anesthesiologist increasingly important.

Though it is not as comprehensive as other major standard psychiatric textbooks, shorter oxford textbook of psychiatry remains very unique in its own right. One could come across tiny pieces of information unavailable elsewhere. No matter which is your reference book in the field, short oxford textbook of psychiatry is to be consulted. Fortunately, there is a kindle version too.
