Description

This book provides a road map for defining the care of acute heart failure (HF) patients in the short stay or observation unit setting. Supported by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, a quality improvement organization that trains and accredits over 1,000 hospitals for heart failure, chest pain, and atrial fibrillation management, it presents a description of the problem, defines the measures of success, elucidates the implementation of interventions required to be successful, and provides the tools to insure quality HF management. Fully updated and revised, the Third Edition discusses administrative and regulatory issues relating to HF management; pathophysiology and demographics of acute HF; emergency department assessment and treatment of acute HF; admission, treatment, and disposition of acute heart failure in short stay units; and resources such as clinical pathways, algorithms, and patient education tools that can be directly utilized in various healthcare settings. Short Stay Management of Acute Heart Failure, Third Edition, is an essential guide for cardiologists, emergency physicians, and hospital administrators, as well as for institutions wishing to be recognized as quality heart failure centers.

Fantastic reference for any shoulder arthroscopists. I use the associated Inkling account all the time to prep for cases on my iPad or online and love the videos. The descriptions of the procedures are clear and precise and coming from one of the Godfathers of Shoulder Arthroscopy, Steve Snyder.

Description

The treatment of humeral fractures is a complex issue and the source of considerable controversy. In the case of fractures of the proximal humerus, early range of motion is the main aim of treatment. If a fracture modifies the anatomy or function of the glenohumeral and scapulothoracic joints, the surgeon must adhere meticulously to treatment principles in order to ensure a satisfactory outcome. Humeral shaft fractures are frequent, accounting for 1% to 3% of all fractures in adults; while excellent functional results have been reported with nonoperative management, open reduction and internal fixation is preferred in specific clinical settings. In contrast, intra-articular fractures of the distal humerus are frequently complex and full functional recovery is difficult to achieve.

Reviews

This is a book on g.e. at a very basic level geared for entry level nursing staff. The section on gallstones (perhaps the most common ailment) is very superficial and has the bottom line of surgical removal of the gallbladder.

If this level suits your needs, the typeface is excellent and very easy to read. The pictures and drawings or good. The book is just at a very entry level.

This looks like an excellent book for studying the skeletal system and common dysfunctions. It is recommended reading for prosthetic orthotic students at EMU, and it is a bit surprising to me. I think it is written for radiologists or orthopedic surgeons. but i am reading it anyway. (Follow up 12-29-13) This was definitely an excellent book even for O&P, contains the best films of normal and pathological skeletal/joint anatomy in CT, MRI, Xray I have ever seen. This book is definitely for med school students; It is advanced and assumes the reader knows a great deal about medicine, and if you don’t you will have trouble. I had to buy a medical dictionary app on my I pad to go along with reading this and Im not new to studying skeletons. I am keeping this book for future reference because there is an enormous amount of information, which is guaranteed to slip my memory. The best part is the book describes both verbally and VISUALLY and so well organized. I would summarize this book as a radiologists perspective on skeletal structure, function, pathologies starting with bone, and connective tissue structure, development, disease, loading and deformation, THere is a great deal of musculoskeletal pathology discussed including joint injuries, surgeries, several arthritic conditions, cancer osteosarcomas lymphomas etc, THe pictures help and a med dictionary compliments also, but this is one of my favorites, obviously.
