Pre-hospital care plays an increasingly important part in contemporary healthcare delivery and the skills of paramedics, emergency medical technicians and emergency care assistants are a vital part of this. This casebook supports readers to develop the necessary assessment and decision-making skills they need in order to effectively manage a variety of cases typically seen in UK paramedic practice.
This book is so plagued by errors that I wonder whether the author knows even the basics of physiology. Use the “Look Inside” feature on Amazon, where the first few pages are available to view. Notice one of the first points that the book makes is that “The Na+/K+ ATP-ase generates high intracellular Na+ concentrations.” This is, of course, absurd, as the ATP-ase pumps sodium out of the cell. Given that this atrocity carried over from the book’s first edition, I would avoid this book at all costs.

This new and updated edition is a practical guide to intensive care for the non-specialist, providing the core knowledge and principles of intensive care patient management.
This is the best US book ever! As an MFM fellow who finds actual images of the pathology essential to my daily learning and counseling, this book is invaluable. The bullet point type formatting makes this book very user friendly, and I appreciate that I do not need to comb through dense text in order to appropriately counsel my patients. Also fantastic as a quick reference in US or clinic. Beautiful images!

Concise and clearly illustrated, the ABC of Resuscitation contains practical information on all aspects of the subject. New guidelines are just one of the changes to the 5th edition of this book. Many of the chapters are completely rewritten, with new material on automated defibrillators, advanced life support including paediatric life support, new drugs plus many new illustrations. The text is relevant for Europe, Australasia, South Africa, South America, Malaysia and the Middle East – especially Israel. Ireland is moving closer to the European position and away from the USA.

“This is an excellent book; it gives clear guidance to professionals. If you are concerned about child abuse and its detection, then you must get this book.”
