I’m a techie but I love to have my guidelines at my hand. Very minor discrepancies but it’s a decent resource. For a 2019 book, I expected the seizure guidelines to be updated among a couple of other topics that have recent guideline updates, but in the end, the book isn’t wrong, but I expected a tad more in some areas.
Now in two colours throughout, this new edition of Lecture Notes: Neurology contains the core neurological information required, whichever branch of clinical medicine you choose. Reflecting current clinical practice, the latest advances in the diagnosis and management of neurological diseases are concisely covered.
However, this edition isn’t as good as the previous ones for two major reasons. 1) all the clinical procedures have been removed from the text and can only be accessed via the online edition. That’s annoying and cheap if you ask me. It’s always been in every other edition. 2) For a book with a copyright date of 2019, it should have the up to date hypertension guidelines. It doesn’t. The book states that Stage 1 hypertension is anything greater than 140/90 when we know that it was changed in 2017 to 130-139/80-89 and 140/90 is now considered Stage 2. I bring this up because in the last edition, they didn’t have the correct hypertension guidelines either claiming that the newer guidelines weren’t ready during publication time. So, what’s the reason this time? That’s two editions in a row now that the hypertensive guidelines are wrong. Hypertension is one of the most common maladies we will face. I just wish it was up to date.

It covers the core conditions but there’s just too little in this book (and too few pictures) for you to read it and feel like you understand much at the end of it.

I was excited to order this book because it appeared to contain all important issues related to heart failure. Some chapters are a joy to read, however the authors refer to papers and results that are not up-to-date in the medical literature. I wish they performed a recent literature review prior to publishing this book. I still mainly used journals for reference rather than this book.
