I received my second copy of this book. That’s how good it is. A year before this second edition arrived, I preordered it because my first edition was already falling apart from being overused. This is the book I keep next to my microscope – it is the one I refer to when my memory fails me or when I need a little support in my daily work as a pathologist. The content in this book is so work oriented and practical. The lack of photos in the book is no drawback – on the contrary – this is a book to remind you of the theoretical details that you should already have studied and learned. This is not a book to learn pathology from, it is an external brain to keep all the details that slip your mind. The book does contain a large online library of photos, but I have to admit I haven’t used it much. If I need photos and more thorough text, I peruse my bigger textbooks.

What can I say? Netter is well known for its beautiful illustrations, and this is no exception. Anatomy, in real life has exceptions, variations, etc..It seems that their focus is on the generalizations that make anatomy more understandable for those of us who are not anatomists and surgeons. The drawings are clear, and the charts are beautifully done, and helpful in making the illustrations more helpful.

Reviews

I was really excited to see the edition of this classic text book. I was hoping to read all cutting edge information. The price of the kindle edition is almost the same as physical book but none of the videos or other supplemental material is available to the buyers unless they subscribe to access medicine. To test how recent the updates were, I tested out the subject of hypertension. Although the current hypertension guidelines were published in October 2017, this edition published in second half of 2018 still does not mention them and uses old classification of hypertension from 2003. I wonder if other topics have the same fate. So I can’t trust the latest edition to get the latest information.

Reviews

This book is by far the most helpful for beginners. You will learn how to recognize pathology in ultrasound because the author includes many helpful images. What I found most helpful was the labeling of the sonogram images with arrows. Some books (e.g. Rumack- Diagnostic Ultrasound) do not use “arrows” to label the actual image after stating existing pathology on the image. It was very frustrating for a novice like myself because sometimes I wasn’t sure which part of the image was the actual pathology or artifact that the author mentioned in the text. The other thing is sometimes Rumack would discuss a disease that appears on a sonogram, but not include even one image for that disease. Or sometimes, only one image would be included. It just wasn’t well organized. The only time I would recommend Rumack’s book is for people who already have experience with ultrasound pathology such as physicians.

Definitely not a primer book if new to the subject. I would recommend “Echo made easy” by Kaddoura for anyone new to the subject and supplement it with this book which is more detail with description on the techniques and the calculation involved in echo.
