Head and Neck Cancer is the first, truly multi-disciplinary book in this field. The focus is the 2-part approach that any physician treating these patients must follow: maximize the chance for a cure while maintaining a strong emphasis on quality of life. Although the overall incidence of head and neck cancer is not as great as breast or lung, it is a very devastating form of cancer which has tremendous implications not only on the overall health of the patient, but on his or her appearance and quality of life.
If you work in public health this book is a great go-to for defining things you already know or need to refresh on theory and model behind research and public health intervention models. It reads like a reference guide. I give it to my research assistants so we can all operate with the same vocabulary.

This pocket guide mimics the successful format of the long running series of Washington Manuals on the care of the medical patient and provides an effective emphasis on immediate bedside interventions. Due to the varied levels of training of the contributors, the rigor of chapter content may vary. Overall, this is an effective quick read for bedside practitioners. ———————————————————– Weighted Numerical Score: 78 – 3 Stars – Doody’s Enterprises, Inc – David J. Paediatrics Lecture Notes provides the information central to a thorough understanding of the care of children in clinical practice, drawing out key concepts in areas such as examination, communication and emergency paediatrics, in addition to systematically structured clinical topics.
My opinion is that my Lange’s Big Picture textbook for physiology is written better with more concise information and better feedback drawings. The illustrations in this textbook are better than many, but I expect an illustrated review book to clarify things quickly and cement my learning. Otherwise, I’d muddle through the extensive Guyton & Hall my course recommends.

The aim of the 100 Cases series is to provide a novel learning and revision tool that works by guiding the student through clinical cases, imitating those that students and Foundation Year doctors are likely to meet in a general practice setting. The cases are written to interest students in clinical problems, and to help them develop their skills of clinical reasoning with each scenario providing details of a patient’s medical history and the key findings of a clinical examination, together with initial investigation results data for examination. Key questions then prompt the student to evaluate the patient, and reach a decision regarding their condition and the possible treatment plan, while the answer pages enable the reader to understand the processes a clinician goes through in such situations. The volumes are designed with the student in mind, and include features to aid self-directed learning, clinical thinking, and problem-solving.
