Prepared by specialty residents, fellows and staff in the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine, and reviewed by attending physicians in each field—each volume in this renowned series delivers the on-the-spot help you need to provide quality patient management. Right from the initial chapter, you’ll learn how to take a patient history, how to interpret exam findings, what tests to order, how to complete the workup, and how to formulate an effective management plan.
This book has been tremendously helpful during my cardiology rotation as a resident. I wish I had it as a medical student!

The Washington Manual of Critical Care , similar to other volumes in this vaunted series, features authors and contributors who are faculty members and practicing physicians at Washington University’s School of Medicine. Inside you’ll find comprehensive and current information for bedside diagnosis and management of some of the most common illnesses and problems encountered in the ICU setting
This is probably the best book to have during your clinical years of medicine. I would go as far as to say its better than the OHB for clinical medicine. The reason for this being it is much more practically orientated in helping you identify and manage conditions you will see when you first become a doctor. It provides concise differentials for most common presentations with recent management guidelines. It is more practical and less theoretical than most other OHBs. I highly recommend for all medical students and foundation doctors.

Lippincott’s Illustrated Reviews: Physiology brings physiology clearly into focus, telling the story of who we are, how we live, and, ultimately, how we die. By first identifying organ function and then showing how cells and tissues are designed to fulfill that function, Lippincott Illustrated Reviews: Physiology decodes this discipline like no other text or review book. Each element was tailored for ease of use and fast content absorption, all combining to bring this story to life for readers. Visionary artwork, Clinical Applications, and Unit Review Questions teach and reinforce the most essential concepts in physiology—perfect for classroom learning and test/boards preparation!
This book is a great handbook for students and interns. The chapters are organized by symptoms. Each chapter walks you through the differential and does a great job explaining the mechanisms that lead to the symptom. Each chapter then describes the workup of each symptom. Therefore, it is perfect for any situation where you are working up a patient from scratch, for example a new outpatient or ED visit. However, detailed management of specific diseases is weak, and I use The Harriet Lane Handbook: Mobile Medicine Series, Expert Consult: Online and Print for that.

The ABC of Kidney Disease, Second Edition is a practical guide to the most common renal diseases to help healthcare professionals screen, identify, treat and refer renal patients appropriately and to provide the best possible care.
Good book. Errata: the new guidelines for active phase of labor is > = 6cm dilated, whereas this book is outdated and still recommends 4cm. Not nitpicking, its on the shelf and all the Qbanks, so its definitely something you need to know. Otherwise, as usual, CaseFiles is awesome. ALL the cases are awesome. Maybe a definition or 20 extra that we don’t need to know but still, its there for completeness sake. Wish I could give it 4.5 stars, because its not quite 5, but is a little better than 4. FYI For the shelf do the ACOG/Uwise questions x2, this book x1 and you should easily honor it. Oh, and UWorld of course.

Paediatric Dentistry at a Glance is the new title in the highly popular at a Glance series. It provides a concise and accessible introduction and revision aid, comprehensively covering all the constituent sub-topics that comprise paediatric dentistry. Following the familiar, easy-to-use at a Glance format, each topic is presented as a double-page spread with facts accompanied by clear diagrams and clinical photographs encapsulating essential knowledge.
This is an incredibly useful learning tool for students. I love how organized the pages are and it it also comes with a code for the online learning software. If your a student get this and you’ll never regret it. Forget you class textbooc beacause it won’t even comapre.

The management of acute medical emergencies is the most demanding and stressful aspect of medical training. Most textbooks of medicine can only go into general detail about the management of medical emergencies, and it is difficult for the practising doctor to keep up-to-date with the latest guidelines while doing a busy clinical job.

A 24-year-old woman attends rheumatology outpatients with an eight-week history of painful hands. On examination she is tearful and thin. You are the medic on duty…
The painful truth is that the best way to do good SAQ answers is to practice doing SAQ answers. Used wisely this book gives you the chance to do that and then see how your own answers compare. After you have rinsed it out & know the answers it is still good revision. If only there were more questions and answers in it!! (I remember thinking!)

This brand new title provides a highly illustrated and unambiguous introduction to most common presentations encountered in GP surgeries, in minor injury units and emergency departments. Now in its second edition, Gray’s Anatomy Review continues to be an easy-to-use resource that helps you relate anatomy to clinical practice and pass your exams. Designed as a companion to Gray’s Anatomy for Students, this medical textbook is your indispensable resource for both in-course examinations and the USMLE Step 1.
Good cards. I especially like the diagrams depicting the medication’s pharmacodynamics. I gave it only four stars because it doesn’t list the class of medication.
