I overall liked it as an additional question source for interventional boards recert exam. CathSAP questions seemed overall more boards-relevant but still a lot of good topics and even though many questions focused on minutiae that are probably not boards-relevant, it still provided decent questions for review. I really liked that the questions were also available in an on-line format (select answer, submit then immediate scoring of the question plus explanation) but there were a few chapters where the publisher messed up the online answer key. Chapter 24 was especially problematic. Not a huge deal because you can cross-check with the book hard copy, which did not have the same errors but still is something the publisher should have fixed by now.

A very comprehensive book aimed primarilly at medical students but has a helpful layout, lots of bullet points and illustrations accompanying the text which would make it an interesting reference guide for lay readers also. It is quite specialist and obviously relies quite heavily upon medical terminology. It is also aimed at those with access to a smart phone and online capabilities to get the full benefit out of this aide so that is a consideration also. Really well balanced and informative though.

This book is designed to present a comprehensive and state-of the-art approach to the diagnosis and surgical management of parasitic diseases involving different organ systems, with emphasis on the gastrointestinal tract. It is divided into five parts that address the various etiologies, current diagnostic dilemmas and methods, as well as the key principles involved in their surgical management. The introduction presents the overall epidemiology and classification of parasitic diseases, followed by chapters that focus on different types of the most frequently encountered parasitic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract found in different parts of the world, with special attention given to the existing surgical debates regarding the use of minimally invasive procedures. The next part places special emphasis on hydatid disease by describing the current extent of this disease, changes in its management, and the most frequent complications and tips on how to avoid them. The following part discusses the surgical management of parasitic diseases affecting different organ systems, including the heart, the lungs, the brain and the urinary system. The final part presents the surgical dilemmas encountered in special situations, such as pregnancy, and the pediatric patient. The Surgical Management of Parasitic Diseases is an important and authoritative resource to surgeons of all specialties dealing with parasitic diseases About the Author George TsoulfasDepartment of SurgeryAristoteleion University of ThessalonikiThessalonikiGreeceJamal J HoballahDepartment of SurgeryAmerican University of Beirut Medical CenterHamra, BeirutLebanon George C.
