Vertical scar mammaplasty has now gained wide popularity, and important advances have been achieved since the successful first edition of this book, which described the fundamentals of the technique. This new, completely revised and updated edition fully reflects the evolution in vertical scar mammaplasty during the past decade. Previously published procedures have been modified and refined, and a variety of important newer techniques are presented. These include several breast reduction procedures using a short scar and techniques of mastopexy that pay specific attention to enhancement of breast projection and upper fullness. Extensive consideration is also given to the treatment of complications and the management of suboptimal outcomes of breast reduction and mastopexy. An impressive list of international authors have contributed to the book, each describing their own technique step by step in the manner of a manual. Not only are the surgical techniques precisely depicted in high-quality illustrations, but readers will have access to videos that will enable them to shorten their learning curve. Vertical Scar Mammaplasty will be an ideal guide to short scar breast surgery for trainees, and a superb reference for more experienced practitioners. Review “The editors have expanded their focus on surgical techniques to include a more holistic assessment of patient care, with several areas of interest to anesthesiologists. … We highly recommend that anesthesiologists with responsibility for trauma patients read and utilize this book frequently. Velmahos, Degiannis, and Doll are giants in trauma surgery, and their surgical insight on evidencebased approaches to care of the patient with penetrating trauma will prove valuable to anesthesiologists caring for such patients.” (Markus M. Luedi and Richard P. Dutton, Anesthesia & Analgesia, Vol. 124 (3), March, 2017)”The book is divided into seven sections dealing, successively, with prehospital care and resuscitation, surgical strategies in penetrating trauma to the different anatomic areas from head to pelvis, penetrating trauma to the limbs, and other topics. … the book is useful, complete, readable and relevant, and as such should be of interest to all surgeons dealing with penetrating trauma, and specifcally to those not exposed to these injuries on an everyday basis.” (F. J. Turégano, European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery, Vol. 43, 2017)”This is the second edition of a comprehensive textbook of trauma care with a focus on the patient suffering penetrating injury. … Resuscitation and operative management are appropriately emphasized, but the scope of the chapters spans the full spectrum of trauma care from field assessment and resuscitation through rehabilitation. Senior surgical trainees and practicing surgeons, particularly those with only occasional contact with patients with penetrating injury, will benefit from this book, originating from an international group of authors.” (David J. This book provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of lymph node micrometastasis (LMM) and sentinel node navigation surgery (SNNS) in gastrointestinal cancers. Lymph node metastasis is a critically important prognostic factor in gastrointestinal tract cancers such as tumors of the esophagus, stomach, and colorectum. An understanding of the basic aspects of lymphatics and lymph nodes, including anatomy, histology, physiology, immunology, and molecular biology, is fundamental for physicians who are involved in cancer treatment. Furthermore, owing to the development of molecular and biological methodology, the precise recognition of LMM and its clinical significance have been clarified recently. At the same time, SNNS has actually been anticipated in treatment of breast tumors, and it is now being introduced in gastrointestinal tract cancer. For the application of SNNS, the detection of lymph node metastasis including LMM is extremely significant, because the presence of LMM determines the direction for surgery and chemo and/or radiation therapy. With these considerations in mind, the expert contributors to this book review basic and clinical approaches for LMM and SNNS including methodology for gastrointestinal cancers. Thus this volume benefits not only surgeons who treat gastrointestinal cancers but also clinical oncologists and medical scientists such as physiologists and pathologists. –This text refers to the hardcover edition. About the Author Dr. Shoji Natsugoe Professor Department of Digestive Surgery, Breast and Thyroid Surgery, Kagoshima University Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Kagoshima, Japan –This text refers to the hardcover edition.

Ultrasound plays an important role in the diagnostic imaging of infants and children and has indeed become the workhorse for many conditions. This is attributable both to the avoidance of ionizing radiation and to the unique features displayed on ultrasound in children in almost all body areas. In the future the potential of ultrasound can be expected to increase further owing to new developments such as ultrasound contrast material, three- or four-dimensional ultrasound, and ultrasound elastography. This book systematically covers the use of ultrasound in all organ systems and throughout childhood. After discussion of the basics, including physics, artifacts, and procedural details, decision making regarding the use of ultrasound is elucidated by listing next imaging steps based on recommended imaging algorithms. The indications and prerequisites for a particular examination are documented, and practical tips and tricks are highlighted. The normal, age-dependent ultrasound findings and typical appearances in different pathologies are presented in detail and illustrated by numerous high-quality images. Particular emphasis is placed on those findings that differ from the adult sonographic appearances. In addition to the classic pediatric abdominal applications, detailed consideration is given to neurosonography, echocardiography, chest ultrasound, musculoskeletal and hip ultrasound, Doppler sonography, and interventional ultrasound. The potential role of the most modern techniques in various situations is explained.Pediatric Ultrasound will prove an invaluable source of information and an indispensable aid to decision making and diagnosis for radiology residents, experienced (pediatric) radiologists, sonographers, pediatricians, pediatric surgeons and urologists, and all other physicians who deal with children as a part of their daily practice.
