Description

Keratoplasty techniques have evolved in the last 15 years into a variety of forms, which have diversified the previous monographic presence of the penetrating keratoplasty technique. The development of anterior lamellar graft (DALK), and posterior lamellar graft (DSAEK), makes an important change in the approach to lamellar surgery. Later on, the appearance of DMEK and superficial lamellar keratectomy broadened the spectrum. Today, intralamellar surgery has evolved with a number of techniques that involve stromal enhancement with biologically active or acellular corneal laminas from donors, customized lenticles from SMILE surgeries or customized by corneal topography, and more recently, corneal regeneration of the stroma by advanced techniques using mesenchymal stem cells. This book offers a comprehensive overview of modern keratoplasty techniques, the technology, surgical skills, and outcomes. It highlights the practical uses of keratoplasty for allcornea surgeons and anterior segment surgeons. The book is divided into sections, each covering a specific type of keratoplasty, including chapters on innovations within each surgery type. The goal of this book is to unify all recent knowledge about the different keratoplasty techniques and outcomes, creating a one-stop resource for ophthalmaolgy surgeons.Modern Keratoplasty is a must-have resource for corneal specialists and surgeons, anterior segment surgeons, refractive surgeons, cataract surgeons, residents, fellows, and corneal researchers.

Vitreo-retinal Surgery (Essentials in Ophthalmology) (2010) by Bernd Kirchhof PDF

Ebook Info

  • Published: 2010
  • Number of pages: 172 pages
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 4.07 MB
  • Authors: Bernd Kirchhof

Description

Unlike the cornea or lens, the retina is part of the central nervous system and cannot be replaced. Therefore degeneration of the outer retina is blinding, but trials using devices such as retinal implants which combine biology with technology are showing promise at restoring vision. Macular diseases are the most common cause of blindness in the developed countries. Edema of the macula may arise in the retina, such as in diabetes mellitus or in epiretinal membrane formation, but most importantly it is age-related insufficiency of the underlying retinal pigment epithelial cell that causes central scotoma. This volume on vitreo-retinal surgery is written by authors who are leaders in these fields of research. It covers the large body of experimental research performed to date on the most urgent clinical problems of vitreoretinal disease.

⭐This book arrived on time and in good condition. This book has a physiological and clinical approach to the topic and perhaps not as detailed on the techniques. If interested in the recent literature review on the topic without significant detail on how-to then this is a very nice simple source.

Vitreo-retinal Surgery: Progress III (Essentials in Ophthalmology) (2009) by Stanislao Rizzo PDF

  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 5.43 MB
  • Authors: Stanislao Rizzo

Description

Since the introduction of vitrectomy in the 1970s, vitreoretinal surgery has rapidly developed. Initially, new instrumentations were created to facilitate intraocular maneuvers and to treat almost all the vitreoretinal pathologies. High speed vitrectome probs, forceps, scissors, endolaser probes, and new light sources (xenon/photon light) permit us to perform safer surgeries. However, in the last few years the approach to vitreoretinal surgery has changed with the introduction of small gauge instruments and sutureless surgery. At present there is still confusion among vitreoretinal surgeons about the use of 25-, 23- or 20-gauge sutureless systems.Leading surgeons in the field were recruited to offer their insights into the sutureless techniques they perform.Topics dealt with in the book include: – fluidics and technical characteristics of 23- and 25-gauge systems, – basic vitrectomy techniques of 23- and 25-gauge systems, – sclerotomy characteristics of the sutureless approach, – advantages and disadvantages of the sutureless technique, – vitreoretinal pathologies treated with 23- and 25-gauge systems, – complications of the sutureless technique, – current clinical data.

⭐Best book I have seen for teaching the beginner about all the steps for performing cataract surgery. While much of the content is the same as the first edition which I have had since 2007, there are added sections for laser assisted cataract surgery. There is an abundance of photos, diagrams, figures and drawings to allow the visual learner to be engaged while learning this subject. This book is a collaborative effort of many teacher experts in the field of cataract surgery. I gave this as a gift to some ophthalmologists in a developing country that currently do not have access to some of the technology discussed in certain sections of the book.
