  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 40.67 MB

Description

This richly illustrated book discusses the fetal eye, offering a brief introduction to the topic and discussing its development and treatment. The high-quality reference images allow the morphological fetal age to be determined, and the authors provide examples of artifacts and real-world findings to simplify histopathological diagnosis. The book also discusses findings in fetal eyes, presenting typical examples of common malformations, including clinical and histological pictures as well as additional findings from other specialties (such as neuropathology, genetics). In addition, it covers non-specific ocular malformations. It particularly addresses documentation and interpretation of cases of suspected Shaken-Baby Syndrome, which is of forensic importance. In the context of retinopathy of prematurity, histopathological and clinical findings are correlated. The book provides reference images of fetal development and guidelines on grossing and handling fetal eyes, andalso explores the complicated topic of artifacts, including case illustrations with comprehensive information concerning other specialties. Lastly it discusses clinically and forensically relevant findings in newborns. It guides ophthalmic and pediatric pathologists in the interpretation of ocular findings, helping to narrow down differential diagnoses in fetal pathology, while at the same time serving as a valuable tool for specialists who do not have a great deal of experience in the examination of fetal eyes.

Description

Visual optics requires an understanding of both biology and optical engineering. This Field Guide assembles the anatomy, physiology, and functioning of the eye, as well as the engineering and design of a wide assortment of tools for measuring, photographing, and characterizing properties of the surfaces and structures of the eye. Also covered are the diagnostic techniques, lenses, and surgical techniques used to correct and improve human vision.

⭐This book is certainly not meant to be a complete textbook about ophthalmic optics. However, it is very suitable to obtain an brief overview or to use it as a work of reference. The texts are easy to understand if one has a general background in geometric optics. I would also recommend this book to medical students who don’t have to know each and every detail about the underlying technologies.

⭐As an admin at an optics company so I can’t give a thorough review of this field guide (I process the paperwork, not work with eyeballs all day long). However, my boss swears by this guide and had me purchase 1/2 dozen of these books to give out to all of the optical scientists in our department, so it has to be pretty good!

Fluorescence Angiography in Ophthalmology 2008th Edition (2008) by Stefan Dithmar PDF

Ebook Info

  • Published: 2008
  • Number of pages: 234 pages
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 16.7 MB
  • Authors: Stefan Dithmar

Description

Fluorescein and Indocyanine green angiography, including the imaging of fundus autofluorescence, has been significantly improved in the last few years. The use of confocal laser technology in particular has been the most significant impro- ment: the technology is digital, fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography are seen in real time and can be used simultaneously. The clinical findings have been expanded with the addition of infrared, red-free and autofluorescence – aging. The foundations for the new fluorescence angiography atlas of Professor S. Dithmar, Heidelberg and Professor F. Holz (previously of Heidelberg) are fi- ings that have been gathered at the Heidelberg University Department of O- thalmology with the Heidelberg Angiograph 2 (HRA 2, Heidelberg Engineering. This work documents the authors’ successful collaboration with the Heidelberg Engineering firm. This atlas clearly explains the technical fundamentals of fluorescence angi- raphy and the imaging of pathological fluorescence phenomena. A full chapter is devoted to fundus autofluorescence, particularly with regard to pathological fi- ings in the retinal pigment epithelium. Naturally, diseases of the macula are given particular attention, especially to age-related macular degeneration and the use of Anti-VEGF therapy. The wide spectrum of macular disorders has been expanded with attention given to retinal vascular disease, inflammatory, retinal and chor- dal diseases, disorders of the optic nerve, and the typical findings of intraocular tumors, including choroidal melanomas, choroidal metastases and choroidal hemangiomas.
