G Protein Signaling Mechanisms in the Retina (Springer Series in Vision Research, 3) 2014th Edition (2014) by Kirill A. Martemyanov PDF

Ebook Info

  • Published: 2014
  • Number of pages: 206 pages
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 6.8 MB
  • Authors: Kirill A. Martemyanov

Description

The main purpose of this volume is to provide a focused analysis of the function of the G protein-coupled signaling pathways that operate in the interconnected network of retinal neurons as they detect and encode the information carried by light. The organization of this volume will generally follow the path of signal flow in the retina. First we will describe recent advances in understanding the phototransduction cascade of rod and cone photoreceptors, which use signaling cascade based on the GPCR rhodopsin to transduce incident light into neural activity. Chapters will be devoted to unique specializations of the two major types of photosensitive cells that comprise the predominant input for our spatial and color vision. Subsequently, the mechanisms of synaptic information encoding by retinal ON bipolar cells will be described, where the GPCR mGluR6 plays a fundamental role. Chapters in this section will examine macromolecular organization of the mGluR6 signaling pathway as well as current understanding of its function. The functional characteristics of this signaling mechanism will be explored in detail. Additionally, this section will cover the role of dopamine receptors in modulating signal transmission between photoreceptors and ON-bipolar cells. Finally, chapters will be focused on the output neurons of the inner retina, ganglion cells, where the components of the emerging GPCR melanopsin cascade in intrinsically photosensitive ganglion cells will be detailed. Collectively these mechanisms allow the retina to represent visual space over a wide range of light intensities.

⭐G Protein Signaling Mechanisms in the RetinaSpringer Verlag New York Berlin HeidelbergRe: Joseph Grenier MD PhDThis is an excellent monograph of Rod and Cone physiology in the retina preparation. G proteins with knockout and transgnenic mice are used to look at the mechanisms of vision through receptors, on RPE, bipolar and ganglionic cells. The kinetics of ionic channels is examine d in detail. This is an important book for ophthalmology researchers, graduate, and biochemistry students.G protein kinases and signal transduction cascades are looked at in great detail, as is the RPE knockouts lacking the ERG waves associated with the wild type mice. The tracings and evidence support the various theories of this book. It is highly recommended book in visual neurophysiology.

⭐Es un compendio de excelente calidad. De ågil lectura, dispone de una forma dinåmica para encontrar las distintas patologías relacionadas con la måcula.

⭐RE: Gass’ Atlas 5th Edition (Kindle Edition)While the content of the Kindle edition of this atlas is good, it is let down by one very major flaw – lack of a proper table of contents. The physical book as well as the online version both have a detailed table of contents while only the major headings are displayed in the Kindle edition.Unfortunately the search function is overly inclusive and it is difficult to distinguish whether the keyword one has typed in is coming up in a major heading, or simply in the exhaustive reference list that is found at the end of each chapter. There should be an advanced search option to exclude finding keywords within the references. On a mac computer it is not possible to zoom in on the pictures, but it is possible to do so when using an iPhone or iPad. This limitation is irritating as I mostly use a mac laptop.I’m not happy after having spent over $300 for a product I expected to be as good as the print copy, but with the distinct advantage of portability. I have emailed Amazon asking them to update the Kindle edition of this atlas but I have not had a response after about 3 weeks. The Kindle edition is very difficult to navigate and as a result I am not using it much. If these issues are resolved in an update, it will be a fantastic resource.

⭐I got a used copy with top of pages missing so I could not read half of it but since the diseases are hereditary with no treatments, it’s not like that harms anyone. It has nice photos that are fun and enjoyable to look at.

⭐the second volume is not delivered and The corners of the book as seen in the pics are also damaged

Gene- and Cell-Based Treatment Strategies for the Eye (Essentials in Ophthalmology) 2015th Edition (2015) by Elizabeth P. Rakoczy PDF

Ebook Info

  • Published: 2015
  • Number of pages: 102 pages
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 5.08 MB
  • Authors: Elizabeth P. Rakoczy

Description

In this book, leading experts provide detailed descriptions of the exciting treatments that are expected to become part of the ophthalmologist’s arsenal within the next 10–20 years. The treatments discussed relate to a wide variety of conditions, including macular degeneration, Leber’s congenital amaurosis, retinitis pigmentosa, choroideremia, and retinoschisis. The authors explain clearly how different gene and cell therapies work and provide first-hand accounts of the difficulties that they have faced in bringing these technologies to clinical trial, such as issues relating to funding and ownership. Results achieved to date are presented, and the further steps required before the treatment in question can become a routine option are considered. Gene- and Cell-Based Treatment Strategies for the Eye is unique in showing the organic development of cutting-edge science into potential treatments for eye disease without compromising on accurate reporting of scientific facts. It will persuade the average practitioner or researcher – whether ophthalmologist, health worker, or scientist – that change is indeed coming and is not just a hollow promise of the tabloid media.
