Description

In our world of information overload, there is an increasing struggle to keep the main thing the main thing. Fundamental OSCE Guide in Ophthalmology is a concise study guide presented in a direct, exam style question and answer format, illustrated with high quality clinically relevant photographs tailored to medical students, nurses, optometrists and residents in their early ophthalmology training. This book provides invaluable guidance to readers in presenting their answers in a logical, succinct and elegant manner. The style and format have been intentionally designed to simulate examination conditions and to provide readers with ample practice in preparation for the examinations. Ophthalmology is a very specialized field with many textbooks providing a wealth of information. Exposure to ophthalmology is limited in most undergraduate interactions to a few weeks at best. With a shortage of time, gaining a good understanding of what is important is overwhelming. This book helps to streamline and focus knowledge of readers in understanding the essential conditions in ophthalmology. Various other texts on ophthalmology are often in prose and covers a wide range of topics, including the esoteric conditions. To the untrained eye, it is difficult to discern what should be focused on. Students are often times excited about knowing rare conditions and spend precious time and effort remembering details of these conditions without a strong foundation of the more common conditions seen day to day. This books not only highlights the important conditions, it is structured to simulate examination conditions and can be used as a self-testing tool.

Cataract Surgery: FCO Series (Fundamentals of Clinical Opthalmology) 1st Edition (2003) by Andrew Coombes PDF

Ebook Info

  • Published: 2003
  • Number of pages: 218 pages
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 4 MB
  • Authors: Andrew Coombes

Description

This medium sized text is intended to give the reader a readable comprehensive overview of all aspects of a cataract from its numerous perspectives, eg epidemiology, medicolegal aspects and Third World issues, in addition to providing an exposition of past, present and future surgical techniques for its removal. The book is a compilation of chapters provided by experienced surgeons and anaesthetists, epidemiologists, physicists and others involved in the management of the patient with cataract. Modern phakoemuslification techniques are described in detail and include basic physics or phakodynamics as well as the most common approaches or strategies for nuclear removal from soft cataracts to dense brunescent nuclear sclerosis. Wound construction is covered in some detail since this is perhaps one of the most important components of successful phakoemulsification. The refractive implications of wound construction are explained since an understanding of corneal changes in cataract surgery is essential when combined cataract and refractive surgery, which is now commonplace, is contemplated. There are chapters devoted to local anaesthetic techniques, the management of the diabetic patient, as well as other complex problems. A separate chapter is devoted to biometry and the problems of lens power calculations in patients having previously undergone corneal refractive surgery. Finally, future developments such as laser phako and accommodative lens implants are included.

⭐Certainly the only text I have found in the field to present a technologically up-to-date, user-friendly and endearingly logical approach to the field of keratology. Relatively brief, strategically illustrated to aid understanding, and very readable, this book eliminates the unnecessary fog that can surround the practice of this field through teaching and then applying important principles onto which selective details are added. I was reassured that the single author is a professor and eminent expert in the field, and in fact this is one of those works where having a single author benefits its uniformity simply as Coster presents a unified way of thinking throughout. Any reader will need to use a more didactic text from time to time to add some additional facts to this text. However the book succeeds in translating the ins and outs of specialised management of corneal and external diseases management for non corneal sub-specialists. The no-nonsense text makes the intricacies of managing corneal disease, both before and after surgery, together with a guide to operative surgery, accessible to all ophthalmologists. Coster is to be congratulated for being generous and humble enough to present and transmit his experience as a highly respected corneal sub-specialist as a skill that can be learned and effectively practised by the non corneal specialist.

⭐Its too concise and training!it covers very basic stuff. It is probably a good reference for the first year of training.

⭐I am a neurology resident. I bought the kindle edition. The content in this book appalling. For example, a chapter devoted to papilledema is tthree pages with hree paragraphs with one picture. No mention or pictures of stages or illustration of the subtle signs. am not sure who the intended target readers were. Waste of mone and bandwidth. Totally useless for any physician. I usually don’t write reviews, but I took time to write this one because it is such a bad book with a misleading title. You will not find anything in this book that will make fundoscopy “easy” for you.

⭐Nice little book plenty of visual references and images to reference

⭐for GP great to refresh appearance of common fundoscopy findings. Still need to know theoretical background though.

Description

Featuring over 250 illustrations, this detailed full-color textbook provides up-to-date information on the use of fundus autofluorescence imaging in the evaluation of retinal disease. The basic science chapters explain the synthesis and degradation of lipofuscin, the main fluorophore in the retina generating the fundus autofluorescence signal; the techniques available to image and quantify fundus autofluorescence and their basis; and the anatomo-pathologic correlations of autofluorescence findings. The clinical science chapters describe the distribution of autofluorescence across the fundus in the healthy eye and in various diseases—age-related maculopathy and macular degeneration, inherited retinal dystrophies, posterior uveitis, central serous chorioretinopathy, macular holes and related conditions, and intraocular tumors.Emphasis is on the value of fundus autofluorescence as a diagnostic and prognostic tool. Description

Fluorescein angiography plays an important role in the management of many retinal disorders which evaluates the pathology of the retina. On the other hand recently introduced Indocyanine green angiography mainly explores the pathology affecting the choroid. This book provides the essential guidance on both the methods and emphasises the differences between the two systems. Based on 25 years of an annual teaching course run by the author, the coverage includes all the common and many rare conditions of the retina and the choroid.
