Description

This book describes the optical structure and optical properties of the human eye. For ease of reference, the most commonly useful topics are at the beginning and topics with narrower appeal are placed towards the end. The book is divided into five sections, covering:Basic optical structure of the eye, including the refracting components, the pupil, axes, and simple models of the eyeImage formation and refraction of the eye, including refractive errors, measurement, and correctionInteractions between light and the eye, considering transmission, reflection, and scatter in the media and at the fundusAberrations and retinal image qualityDepth-of-field and age-related changes in the optics of the eyeThere have been many developments in the field of visual optics since the first edition was published in 2000. There have been advances in instrumentation for imagery, biometry, and aberrations of the eye. The refraction anomaly of myopia has increased in prevalence throughout the world, and is getting increasing attention because of its association with ocular pathology in the middle and later years of life. Ocular aberrations are now considered in terms of Zernike polynomials rather than Taylor polynomials. Aberrations can be manipulated to better understand their effects on visual performance to improve imagery of the retina for the betterment of diagnosis of various ocular conditions, and to treat the progression of myopia in children. To deal with these developments, the section on aberrations and retinal image quality has undergone considerable revision. This book will be an invaluable purchase for all those with an interest in vision, such as optometrists, ophthalmologists, vision scientists, optical physics, and student of visual optics. An understanding of the optics of the human eye is particular important to designers of ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and visual optical systems such as telescopes.

⭐Very well written. Lacking (ironically enough) images that would have helped reinforce the written examples. Still solid enough for 4-stars – and I learned a number of things I will implement.

⭐This book offers a concise overview of optimizing graphics for retina displays. I’m always a bit bothered by retina display images because I am basically building two of every image. The author includes alternatives to double images, such as SVGs and HTML5 Canvas, with a full disclosure of the short comings of these methods. Did you know this little bit of javascript can be used for detecting retina displays: if (window.devicePixelRatio >= 2)? I’d like to spend more time working with server side retina display detections. The author goes into this briefly. It would be nice to know if there is a way to get PHP to resize your image for you, rather than creating the two images and having PHP sniff one or the other out. This probably exists but the book didn’t mention it. After finishing, my conclusion is – use fewer images, but make them look good on every device. Good information. Nice, short read – but I think it could have been longer. I was left with some questions…mostly, are those the only solutions available? I am looking forward to seeing where retina display is headed in the future. Will the rest of the non-market world adopt hi-res? And when should I start making this a priority? I’d recommend this title as an appropriate addition to any web developers book shelf, particularly if you like the short books. It took me just over an hour to get through. How many programming books can you say that about??

⭐This is the ultimate guide when it comes to Retina images! It covers all of the various ways you can implement or switch images to be Retina ready. Kyle not only tells you about the techniques, but shows, demonstrates and explains them so that you truly understand what you are doing. If you want to get a general knowledge of how to deal with Retina images or if you want to get an in depth analysis to become an expert, it is all here for you. The best part is, this is a very short but detailed book that you could finish within an hour; this in itself makes this pocket book so much more amazing (and worth it too). It is a must read for all designers and developers!

Description

This book is designed to have a comprehensive review of the spectrum of diseases involving orbital apex and periorbital skull base and the up-to-date advancement in different treatment modalities. Management of diseases at the orbital apex and periorbital skull base has always been a challenge. Multiple specialties are involved, including skull base neurosurgeon, oculoplastic ophthalmologist, otorhinolaryngologist, head and neck surgeon, oncologist, neurologist and radiologist. However, frequently it results into a “no-man’s land”, as no single specialty is entirely familiar with this complex and overlapping anatomical territory. Cranial nerves, carotid artery, and cavernous sinus are just one of the few examples of important anatomical structures that pass through. However, this has often been managed by one specialty especially during surgical planning and operation, resulting in biases in choices of approach and surgical strategies. We believe that this interesting yet complex region deserves special attention with a well-orchestrated multi-disciplinary effort.Traditionally, surgical treatments for diseases in this region involve different types of craniotomy and orbitotomy. In this book, it covers the advancement in imaging modalities, medical therapies, operative instruments, radiation therapy namely stereotactic radiosurgery or radiotherapy, management of diseases in orbital apex and periorbital skull base evolve and improve with time. Minimally invasive surgery in terms of mastering neuro-endoscopy contributes to the intervention advancement.

Orbital Cellulitis and Periorbital Infections (2018) by Michael T. Yen PDF

Ebook Info

  • Published: 2018
  • Number of pages: 237 pages
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 9.78 MB
  • Authors: Michael T. Yen

Description

This book discusses the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of infections of the orbit and periorbital region and is written by experts in the fields of ophthalmology, oculoplastic surgery, otolaryngology, neurosurgery, and radiology. Infections of the orbit can be challenging to diagnose and manage. With the changing microbiology that has occurred over the years, as well as the introduction of new antibiotics, minimally invasive surgical approaches to the sinuses and orbits, and improved imaging techniques, it is often difficult for practitioners to stay current with the latest testing, medical treatments, and surgical approaches. Furthermore, as more ophthalmologists are joining hospital-based practices or managed care practices, they often feel uncomfortable when asked to manage these types of patients, either independently or in collaboration with other specialists such as ENT and neurosurgery. Even in many hospitals without ophthalmology coverage, where orbital cellulitis is cared for by otolaryngology and neurosurgery, these specialists also need to be current on the changing trends in managing orbital infections. Orbital Cellulitis and Periorbital Infections fills the need for a single-source reference for practitioners to turn to for comprehensive information regarding the diagnosis and management of orbital cellulitis. In this book, each chapter is in-depth, yet can also serve as a quick-reference guide. Orbital Cellulitis and Periorbital Infections is an excellent resource for those in training as well as seasoned practitioners who need to be updated on the newest diagnostic and treatment techniques for orbital cellulitis and periorbital infections.

⭐Wonderful book for the oculoplastics /Orbit surgeon. The illustrations are super and text contains so important summaries. If you are looking for more on basics, pathology and pathophysiology, this may not be the best book (you may consider Smith and Nesi). but for the one looking to learn techniques in orbit surgeries, this is the perfect one. I have gotten what I wanted.

⭐Great book, complete information, very well illustrated. Rootman’s genious way of thinking orbital disease and Surgery.

⭐I got my book immediately considering I was in a different country. The book has great content and illustrations.

⭐must for an oculoplastic surgeon. buy it and u ‘ll love it for sure

⭐Bible of orbital surgery. This is the classic which I would use again and again.

⭐The book is the best for the subspecialty, nothing much to mention regarding this. But received a damaged book, seems like an old or used one, couldn’t return because the book is not readily available and it was important for me to get this book immediately at that moment.
