Description

From the Preface:“About every ten years a new book appears on any given medical specialty subject. Naturally, this is not because the entire body of knowledge on that specialty is overhauled every ten years but because the progress made over a decade usually warrants expressing new perspectives on quite a few diseases. Orbital oncology certainly qualifies as a subspecialty that merits an update every decade. At least two or three excellent textbooks on orbital tumors have been written since the mid-1980s. This book reports advances in knowledge about orbital diseases and their treatment and offers an up-to-date, single-volume reference for orbital tumors with particular emphasis on new improvements in diagnostic and therapeutic measures.Part I comprises advances in oncogenesis and its relationship to orbital tumors. Changes in the biological behavior of diseases in the general patient population are much slower than technological advances; nevertheless, those alterations take place as well. One of the major medical issues of our time, for example, is the changes in the immunological status of individuals. This issue influences the entire field of medicine, particularly oncology, including the treatment of orbital tumors. Chapters 2 to 5 summarize these influences.Medical genetics gained momentum during the past two decades and now affects the clinical practice of almost every discipline of medicine, including ophthalmology and orbitology. Chapters on principles of molecular genetics and immunosurveillance mechanisms of neoplasia and on the occurrence of multiplt, malignant neoplasms in retinoblastoma have been included to apply molecular concepts to clinical practice related to orbital tumors.Advances in one discipline often directly benefit practice in another field. In orbitology, no development has been more influential than the revolution in imaging techniques, including ultrasonography, computerized tomography, andmagnetic resonance methods. Four chapters in Part II are devoted to the role of imaging in diganosis of orbital tumors. Other diagnostic advances entailing immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, gene microarray, and the polymerase chain reaction are summarized in a separate chapter on orbital biopsy.”

⭐great book and I am so glad I bought this

⭐Could be more comprehensive – but it’s better than anything else out there

⭐I was in optometric practice for 25 years BEFORE I had an Optos retinal scanner in my office. I routinely dilated every patient. I felt confident that I was getting a full view of the fundus. I have been doing Optomaps since January 2006. Quite simply, Optos is the best technology you can place in your office for screening and diagnosis. It is an incredible tool for patient education and documentation. Patients love it. You will be humbled by what you, ( what we all ) have missed during routine dilations. Accept the fact that this is a new world. This book is your atlas and roadmap to it. Clear explanations by excellent authors. Beautiful panoramic images. You’ll need this book when you put an Optos in your office and start to…see what you have been missing. Sincerely, Robert Conway, O.D, Rochester, NY, USA

⭐This is a well written help for any ophthalmologist or optometrist — especially those using panoramic view SLO’s like the OPTOS unit. The photos are superior quality and the supporting reviews are well written and descriptive, not only of the condition, but also of accompanying risk factors. The authors should be proud. rfn

⭐I skimmed through the 21st version and really liked the content i read so i searched for a paper copy but found this as a more cost effective option. IF you are in the USA this book is nearly imposible to get a print version (above $80.) All the sites that sell it at a reasonable price ($8-9) are based in India and don’t ship here. $20 for kindle version wasn’t too bad. The content is very comprehensive the first 60-80 pages are just anatomy and physiology which reads really slow but once you get into the disease sections it is very well written, concise, and helpful. I enjoy picking this up because it’s written at the level a third year medical student level where you know 75-80% of the medical terminology. It does a good balance between allowing you to communicate disease processes to patients and to colleagues. I really enjoyed many of the reiterations of simple concepts throughout multiple chapters allowing the big picture to develop and leaving friendly reminders of what is important to know in ophthalmology. The cons of this book: tables are a nightmare at converting (this could be an app dependant thing i use an iPad with the kindle app) they constantly only show half of the table and when i try to slide to the other half of the table it flips the page…that cost this great book a star.It also isn’t very picture heavy (scant on abnormal images of fundus or pathology)US med students- too in-depth unless you want to look like a rockstar on an AIForeign Grads- from what i understand this is the standard textbook that you guys use.

⭐Very useful book for those looking to step into the world of ophthalmology a must have book for them though it is a bit higher level as compared to some other books for the UG level but it will make your concepts more clear and more stronger than any other book available in the market.Value for money as well as for the time.

⭐Good one, but need to add more information. Anatomy , neuro ophthalmology , conjunctiva , lens, glaucoma etc was very good.

⭐Arrived a little bent out of shape, but all good otherwise. Clean new copy and quick Prime delivery.

⭐Great ophthalmology book for UG & PG courses and received it in very good package and satisfied with Amazon delivery

⭐Go for khurana it’s more like a complication of everything related, while Parsons give you the concepts.
