「RPE and the Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor(RPEと血管内皮成長因子)」の章では、VEGFとその調節機構を紹介し、発生、成人、疾患網膜におけるその役割について概観し、低酸素、酸化ストレス、炎症、高熱などの様々な条件下での調節メカニズムについて詳しく説明しています。 Detrickと Hooksによる「The RPE cell and the Immune System(RPE細胞と免疫システム)」の章では、網膜の自然免疫におけるRPEの重要な役割が取り上げられています。 「Retinal Pigment Epithelium in Health and Disease: Maturation, Aging and Age-Related Macular Degeneration(健康と病気における網膜色素上皮:成熟、加齢および加齢黄斑変性)」の章では、Ach、Tarau、およびCurcioが、RPEの発生、分化、およびトランス分化について詳しく説明し、青年期および加齢変化に重点を置いています。 Animal Models of Diseases of the Retinal Pigment Epithelium(網膜色素上皮の疾患の動物モデル)を紹介しています。

⭐Antonia Joussen, who has shot through the ranks of German Academia thanks to an excellent foundation in research -and that was apparent as I briefly met her at ARVO in 95- has joined teams with an elaborate group of scientists and clinicians from both sides of the atlantic. There is some redundancy but here is tons of insight to be gained from the somewhat different approaches that two very advanced clinical systems have developed. As someone who trained on both sides of the Atlantic I find this very interesting and educational. Michael Larsen’s description of a different clincal system for diabetic retinopathy may sound like heresy for ETDRS trained americans, but may make more sense in the long run. The recent “streamlining” of ETDRS in the US ay be an indication of this.Anyhow, with about half of the book dedicated equally to basic science and clinic I find that this is a must read for anyone treating retinal disease today and does not want to have to believe speakers on meetings that are supported by “an unrestricted educational grant from …..”.My only hope is that the team will be ready for a complete update in 3-4 years, as this is a field that is changing so fast…Please keep up the spirit for a second round.Lars Freisberg MD-a more formal review is in the making

⭐Superb book. Unusual for a multi-author book that almost every chapter is a gem. Many multi-author texts by well-known people are either a re-hash of stuff they have publised before or assigned to a fellow who is not experienced in the field. Not here. The book is getting slightly out-of-date as would be expected. I hope they revise it in a a few years to reflect the newest information as it comes along.

⭐The book has come under perfect conditions; it has been delivered in only three weeks.

Description

In March 2001, the National Institutes of Health issued the following warning: “The number of Web sites offering health-related resources grows every day. Many sites provide valuable information, while others may have information that is unreliable or misleading.” Furthermore, because of the rapid increase in Internet-based information, many hours can be wasted searching, selecting, and printing. Since only the smallest fraction of information dealing with retinoblastoma is indexed in search engines, such as www.google.com or others, a non-systematic approach to Internet research can be not only time consuming, but also incomplete. This book was created for medical professionals, students, and members of the general public who want to conduct medical research using the most advanced tools available and spending the least amount of time doing so.
