⭐If you study the Ophthalmology Review Manual and work the questions in this book, you will do well on OKAPS. The questions in this book are superb. They really hit the highlights on very important topics. I would supplement the optics, and would supplement the pathology sections (as would be expected).I recently bough the Mass Eye and Ear Review Manual and it is good too. It has more questions, but the questions are not as good overall. There is a lot more minutia in the Mass Eye and Ear question book. The Chern book you will get the most bang for your buck, hands down.

⭐great book but the new edition is much much better!

⭐Of all the question books out there, these are the most similar to OKAPS and the most high yield. I find the Mass eye and ear questions too detailed and other such books don’t even come close to this classic. Use it for boards and okaps. Pictures and explanations are second to none. As an aside, I hear there may be a new edition in the works. May want to wait for that but I’m not certain.

⭐Really helps define the most important information to study for OKAPs and came highly recommended by those who have taken the test previously

⭐Sooo useful, i really nedded it, although it was a used one but in an axcellent codition.Recommended fro all ophthalmologist

⭐Good book, but needs an updated version.

⭐I used this book and Mass Eye and Ear for OKAPs and found them very useful. Particularly the new edition has more pictures including colorful images and the content is more updated to reflect changes in knowledge. The plastics section is nice as there are several CT scan. The cornea section has several color slides that are useful for oral board review too.The questions in this book are not as difficult as Mass Eye + Ear but the explanations are better and the book is designed to enhance the learning experience.Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone studying for OKAPs or boards. A must have!

⭐This question book used to be the standard one that every Ophthalmology resident and/or fellow bought to prepare for his or her OKAPs and Written Board examinations. Though not bad, the questions are somewhat outdated and there are many typos littered throughout the book. I prefer to use online questions “books” such as ophthoquestions.com and occasionally even the AAO’s ProVision service. I just don’t think this book is worth $100 anymore.

⭐Pretty good. Could be more concise.

Description

Just as patients do not come to a medical office with the intention of suing the p- sician, physicians have no intention of harming their patients. The extensive tra- ing physicians undertake and the nature of the services they provide make them dedicated to doing their best for the well being of their patients. Medical training itself inculcates physicians with the philosophy of not making mistakes. The cri- rion for establishing medical malpractice is negligence on the part of the physician that is the proximate cause of an injury suffered by the patient. The definition of negligence refers to “an unintentional act or failure to act. ” If a physician acts in a negligent manner regardless of whether he or she causes harm to a patient, it is an unintentional error. Allegations of negligence are thus not simply a legal challenge for physicians but are also a professional and psychological affront. It is very uns- tling for the physician who acts with the best of intentions to face the allegation that his or her care was negligent. For physicians, who are trained to search for the truth, the process of litigation is antithetical to their manner of reasoning. The adversarial system of the law is not necessarily a search for the truth but rather the selective presentation of only that e- dence that is favorable to the plaintiff or to the defendant.

⭐I am becoming an ophthalmic assistant and plan on buying this book. since it was recommended by my professor. it has vocabs that can be used daily working for an optometrist. plus it’s a good way to learn about eye diseases and disorders that may occur in patients or someone you know. buy the book if your in this field.

⭐I’m an optometry student, and I’ve been using Dr. Root’s resources for years. Ever since I was a pre-optometry student in undergrad, I’ve watched his videos. His first book was great, and of course his videos and podcasts are amazing. This book is basically a layman’s encyclopedia to the eye. Something clinicians can use to explain things simply to patients. Every eye doc should have one, at least to leave in the waiting room for your patients to pass the time with.

⭐Thanks a billion to Dr.Root.I watch his videos and read his books,.They are very easy and simple to undrestand and excellent lectures by Dr. Roots. We owe you big time. Thanks a lot.Atosa Namvar

⭐This book helped to prepare me for cataract surgery.

⭐Studying for COA and this has been very helpful. Would recommend.

⭐Very easy to understand and entertaining for new ophthalmology nurses, student nurses etc. . Dr Root’s YouTube videos and books are all of the same calibre i.e. valuable tool for educational and professional development.

⭐Very awesome and educational in a fun way. I appreciate the effort put in to help people understand Med Terms without boring it. Also really loved the cartoon comics on each section. Wished that there maybe was more color in the comics to be even more interesting. Overall Superb job!

⭐Another great book by Doctor Root. This book is full of explanations for various eye ailments. I looked up several eye drops and finally understand why my eye doctor keeps checking for glaucoma. Plus, the cartoons were cute and very funny. Great reference book to keep at home, especially if you have any eye problems or you’re on drops.

⭐I work for an ophthalmologist and we are going to use this dictionary to help educate our patients. Very informative and in terms anyone can understand.

Dreyer, MD, PHD[+] Author AffiliationsAuthor Affiliation: Glaucoma-Cataract Consultants Inc, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (dreyer@fastmail.fm).More author informationKEYWORDS: GLAUCOMA.Shields Textbook of Glaucoma returns for its sixth edition–and its second in the capable hands of R. Rand Allingham as senior author. Some decades back, this was a mainstay reference for all glaucoma topics, possibly overshadowed only by Chandler and Grant. Readers with a working knowledge of the earlier editions were on solid ground at both the slit lamp and the operating microscope. This edition continues that honorable tradition, and the authors have provided a solid, well-referenced, easy-to-use resource covering the myriad complexities of the management of intraocular pressure in children and adults. The approach differs in a significant way from that of most medical textbooks. Claudius Galenus presumably authored his work on circulation single-handedly; more recently, however, textbooks of medicine are generally produced by committee. Too often, the result is not ideal. Most ophthalmic texts have a plethora of authors, each responsible for a chapter in his or her particular niche. Although this approach is successful in many cases, it can mask significant bias on the author’s part. Occasionally, chapters are authored by a medical student, resident, or fellow. However, that is not the case here. Each of the 5 authors has personally authored a substantial portion, presenting a balanced view of a rapidly changing field. Although this does not necessarily allow the putative expert in each subtopic to showcase his or her own work, it can–and does–allow for a more even-handed result. The education of a nascent ophthalmologist or glaucoma specialist mandates understanding a broad spectrum of diseases, generally with elevated intraocular pressure as a common finding. However, future advances likewise depend on grasping areas in which progress is presently limited to the laboratory and has not yet reached the clinic. The clinician needs a working familiarity with upcoming advances if he or she expects to be able to intelligently translate these advances to patient management as they become clinically relevant. On both levels–the tried and true and the cutting edge–this book does an excellent job. When discussing current diagnostic approaches and therapies for glaucoma, the authors provide historical context. This makes the reading both more enjoyable and more informative, so the student can appreciate the background behind current management. An example is perimetry. Although much space is (as it should be) devoted to automated static perimetry, the tangent screen and Goldmann perimeters are described as well. Short wavelength and frequency-doubling approaches are described, and the benefits and shortcomings of these approaches are reviewed.Another strong point is that each of the more obscure glaucomas is discussed and illustrated. Even the glaucomologist will rarely encounter these, but the discussions of them are clear and easily followed. The clinical photographs are of excellent caliber. This is an excellent reference for the physician caring for patients with rare forms of glaucoma. In considering some of the newer aspects of the study of glaucoma, the authors have done an excellent job of reviewing the state of the art. For example, as the tools of genetic analysis continue to become clinically relevant, a prudent practitioner will need to be positioned to use these developments. The included information provides a clear snapshot of this rapidly evolving field. The tables and illustrations add greatly. Another strength is the extensive references provided for each chapter. The interested student has all the data necessary to review the primary literature for almost every statement in the text. The discussion on surgical management could have been expanded. The last decade has seen the limited adoption of canaloplasty, the Ex-PRESS mini shunt, and other variations on intraocular surgery to lower intraocular pressure. The book discusses these newer options briefly, but to make an informed clinical decision, the practitioner needs to go beyond the material available here.On balance, however, Shields Textbook of Glaucoma is a strong, easy-to-use resource. In his foreword, Shields notes that sales of the fifth edition topped 9000; astonishing, since the American Academy of Ophthalmology has but 30 000 members. This edition should do at least as well.

⭐This book is a great help to anyone desiring an overview and insight into the area. Great for attorneys doing malpractice.

⭐This is a great glaucoma book. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to learn about glaucoma. Excellent pictures and tables, well-written text. Amazing book.

⭐Seems to be an old used book..
