Description

This book is a practical, symptom-based, ‘how-to’ guide to neuro-ophthalmology and acquired strabismus for all trainee and practising ophthalmologists and optometrists. Each chapter focusses on a specific clinical symptom and includes an introduction to the clinical assessment of a symptom; an examination checklist; a management flowchart to be followed; clinical diagnostic criteria checklists; and further information on the diseases that can cause the symptom with a brief discussion of appropriate management.A practical and accessible handbook for the ophthalmologist or optometrist without a specialist interest in neuro-ophthalmology and acquired strabismus. The text simplifies a subject which is often a cause of litigation against practising ophthalmologists and exam failure for trainees and residents. The book aids diagnosis in a field in which mistakes may lead to medico-legal problems, e.g. brain tumours presenting with blurred or double vision. The book leads the reader from the symptom, through a series of simple but safe flowcharts and check-lists, to the diagnosis or the tests which need to be ordered. The first chapter presents 20 ‘golden rules’ to keep you and your patients out of trouble.A revised text with some new illustrations brings this highly-praised book up to date.New online videos demonstrate abnormal eye movements, eyelid problems and pupil abnormalities.

⭐Purchased for my spouse who is an Optometrist. He stated it is a great book and is happy to be able to use the digital version as well as print.

⭐A very helpful guide for those of us who encounter these problems infrequently yet must know whether emergency referral is required.

⭐Great book, I’ll definitely use for on calls and membership exams.

⭐Everything was fine

⭐Un libro imprescindible en la biblioteca del Neuro Oftalmologo

⭐Good quality.

⭐An essentially essential book for ophthalmology trainees. Only complaint I would have is that almost all of the managements are identical.

The Neurology of Eye Movements (Contemporary Neurology Series) 3rd Edition (1999) by R. John Leigh PDF

Description

The Neurology of Eye Movements provides clinicians with a synthesis of current scientific information that can be applied to the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of ocular motility. Basic scientists will also benefit by descriptions of how data from anatomical, electrophysiological, pharmacological, and imaging studies can be directly applied to the study of disease. By critically reviewing such basic studies, the authors build a conceptual framework that can be applied to the interpretation of abnormal ocular motor behavior at the bedside. These syntheses are summarized in displays, new figures, schematics and tables. Early chapters discuss the visual need and neural basis for each functional class of eye movements. Two large chapters deal with the evaluation of double vision and systematically evaluate how many disorders of the central nervous system affect eye movements. This edition has been extensively rewritten and contains many new figures and an up-to-date section on the treatment of abnormal eye movements such as nystagmus. A major innovation has been the development of an option to read the book from a compact disc, make use of hypertext links (which bridge basic science to clinical issues), and view the major disorders of eye movements in over 60 video clips. This volume will provide pertinent, up-to-date information to neurologists, neuroscientists, ophthalmologists, visual scientists, otolaryngologists, optometrists, biomedical engineers, and psychologists.

⭐Many medical textbooks merely describe the clinical features of eye movement disorders. What I enjoyed about this book was that the authors provide excellent descriptions and explanations of eye movement disorders. The explanations of why these disorders occur provided me with a depth of understanding that I did not have prior to reading this book. The chapters on eye movement physiology, anatomy and clinical disorders are very comprehensive, well written, up to date and well referenced. The book is also offered on a CD-ROM with videos of eye movement disorders. I strongly recommend this book. As a neurologist, this book will be very useful for my clinical practice.

⭐The definitive guide that has major implications in treating concussion and vestibular rehab patients….dry and hard to read…like guyton, but the experts in eye movement.

⭐Not much to say except the book came in great shape. It’s very detailed and not for the beginner, but critical if you really want to get this stuff.

⭐Excellent comprehensive text on the ocular motor control of eye movements, with an extremely deep presentation of associated problems in the brain that cause abnormal eye movements.

⭐Perfect

⭐many complementary information

Description

The Neurology of Vision sets out the principles and information needed to understand and manage disorders of the visual pathways in the brain. The author divides vision into three components. The optical component addresses the eye’s ability to properly focus light on the retina. The retinocortical component converts light into neural signals in the retina, transmitting them to the primary visual cortex. Finally, the integrative component converts this simple visual information into more complicated forms. The symptoms and signs, testing methods, and diseases of each part of the visual system are presented using this unique, structural component approach. A final chapter discusses the visual manifestations of psychiatric disturbances. The book is heavily illustrated with over 150 beautifully rendered line illustrations, 50 radiographic brain images, and 60 retinal photographs. Case studies with teaching questions are also included, to further the reader’s knowledge and test understanding.

Description

Each year, some two million people in the United Kingdom experience visual hallucinations. Infrequent, fleeting visual hallucinations, often around sleep, are a usual feature of life. In contrast, consistent, frequent, persistent hallucinations during waking are strongly associated with clinical disorders; in particular delirium, eye disease, psychosis, and dementia. Research interest in these disorders has driven a rapid expansion in investigatory techniques, new evidence, and explanatory models. In parallel, a move to generative models of normal visual function has resolved the theoretical tension between veridical and hallucinatory perceptions. From initial fragmented areas of investigation, the field has become increasingly coherent over the last decade. Controversiesand gaps remain, but for the first time the shapes of possible unifying models are becoming clear, along with the techniques for testing these. This book provides a comprehensive survey of the neuroscience of visual hallucinations and the clinical techniques for testing these. It brings together the very latest evidence from cognitive neuropsychology, neuroimaging, neuropathology, and neuropharmacology, placing this within current models of visual perception.Leading researchers from a range of clinical and basic science areas describe visual hallucinations in their historical and scientific context, combining introductory information with up-to-date discoveries. They discuss results from the main investigatory techniques applied in a range of clinical disorders. The final section outlines future research directions investigating the potential for new understandings of veridical and hallucinatory perceptions, and for treatments of problematic hallucinations.Fully comprehensive, this is an essential reference for clinicians in the fields of the psychology and psychiatry of hallucinations, as well as for researchers in departments, research institutes and libraries. It has strong foundations in neuroscience, cognitive science, optometry, psychiatry, psychology, clinical medicine, and philosophy. With its lucid explanation and many illustrations, it is a clear resource for educators and advanced undergraduate and graduate students.

Description

A comprehensive review of contemporary research in the vision sciences, reflecting the rapid advances of recent years.Visual science is the model system for neuroscience, its findings relevant to all other areas. This essential reference to contemporary visual neuroscience covers the extraordinary range of the field today, from molecules and cell assemblies to systems and therapies. It provides a state-of-the art companion to the earlier book The Visual Neurosciences (MIT Press, 2003). This volume covers the dramatic advances made in the last decade, offering new topics, new authors, and new chapters. The New Visual Neurosciences assembles groundbreaking research, written by international authorities. Many of the 112 chapters treat seminal topics not included in the earlier book. These new topics include retinal feature detection; cortical connectomics; new approaches to mid-level vision and spatiotemporal perception; the latest understanding of how multimodal integration contributes to visual perception; new theoretical work on the role of neural oscillations in information processing; and new molecular and genetic techniques for understanding visual system development. An entirely new section covers invertebrate vision, reflecting the importance of this research in understanding fundamental principles of visual processing. Another new section treats translational visual neuroscience, covering recent progress in novel treatment modalities for optic nerve disorders, macular degeneration, and retinal cell replacement. The New Visual Neurosciences is an indispensable reference for students, teachers, researchers, clinicians, and anyone interested in contemporary neuroscience.Associate EditorsMarie Burns, Joy Geng, Mark Goldman, James Handa, Andrew Ishida, George R. ⭐Excellent new edition of a book that has fallen apart with reading over the years. Now twice as large, but with the same excellent selection of authors, and care in writing. That said, the book binding leaves much to be desired, especially in a book that I expect to read for many years.

⭐This is an excellent reference book. Just don’t get the hard copy: it’s so big as to be essentially unreadable.

⭐Really good book about vision!

⭐everything ok

⭐Came sealed and in perfect condition. There is a code that allows you to download the book. I had a little trouble with the code but I contacted the company and they were able to give me immediate access.

⭐Easy read and follow

⭐The book was great. But the code for the online book does not work. I complained to the company and now my emails are being returned as undeliverable. I got blocked. Just spend the extra money and buy direct. Don’t waste your time!

⭐This is one of the best book for Ophthalmology. Concise, in-depth and well written with good visuals. For $80 dollars I would have expected it to be shipped tighter and better protected. It was flopping around in a bigger box and bending the cover and pages. Probably Amazon poor shipping… but still disappointing!

⭐I have purchased 2 versions of this text book . both listed to have the additional access to on any internet ready device and in both cases the activation code on the inside cover comes up as invalid on the registration site

⭐Very good book

⭐This book is awesome!!! I can’t even begin to describe what an asset this book is in my office!!!! I bought this book to help me study for the COT exam. This book lives at my office. When a potential tech is hired at my office; my supervisor will ask if the new person can take the book home and start studying it. The head tech in our office refers to it each and every day!! It is a great source of information for the beginning tech, the COA and the COT. This book has much more information in it than the COA Study Manuel that is purchased from JACAPO. It is an invaluable tool in our office. I would say that if you want a career as an Ophthalmic Assistant, than you must have this book in your personal library. It is up to date and has current information regarding refractive surgery such as LASIK and CustomVue. You will use this book over and over again. As a study aid for the COT test, this book can’t be matched. I would suggest that you also purchase the COT Study Guide if you are thinking about taking the COT exam. These two books go hand in hand and will be a valuable asset for and for the doctor that you work for.

⭐Very satisfied with this book! I am a COA studying for the COT exam and this book is great! Very detailed information! Step by step instructions on clinical testing and a lot information on ocular disease. This is a more advanced book though, if you are studying for the COA, I would get the book from the AAO independent study course, and get this for the next level, COT. But this is an excellent resource!

⭐This was a great study guide when preparing for my COA although it was quite larger than the actual book from JCAHPO. It has since been updated from when I took my original test approximately 7-8 years ago, but I will never let go of this book as long as I’m in the Ophthalmic field. It’s been a great resource for me and my coworkers!

⭐Easy read

⭐I used this book as a reference and study tool along with the COA Review book with questions that helped to guide my study time…those two books were used in our COA class through work and I passed my COA …I have lost this book now ordering another one as I prepare for COT!!

⭐This book is the bible of all ophthalmic textbooks. It has clear type, and great pictures. It is easy to use, and covers all aspects in the field. It gives accurate descriptions of conditions and treatments that are up to date. I love this book.

⭐I have been working in Ophthalmology for about 6years, this book is a MUST to have! I am currently studying for my COT and it has great info and pictures. I think it is a book that every technician needs!

⭐our organization uses this textbook in the sales training of all of our new area managers so they understand the ophthalmic world much better

⭐This book is a great study book for the COA exam. It is extremely convenient being on my phone and tablet. I can take it anywhere and study when I have time.

⭐I ordered this book online because i was using the 8th edition and didnt know how much different the two editions were. to my surprise, the difference isnt much really, except for an addition of 3-4 chapters towards the end of the book in the 9th edition. Anyway, i am really happy with the purchase and order because first of all, it came to my country (all the way in the Middle East) in one piece and on time even though it was shipped out a day or two later than it was actually supposed to.the Internet access included in the text allows you to view the book online and be able to print it as well. This is a good option if you are to travel and cant take the book with you because it will obviously consume a lot of weight. otherwise, im not sure what good it will be because there is no study guide available and the only thing you can do with the online access is view your purchased books online.

⭐Bought this bout one year for more on the job knowledge etc. I am going to be taking the JCAHPO Certification test soon and luckily this text is accepted as a “at home study guide”. Good guidelines but if you want quick access to “quiz” questions, use the online website that comes with purchasing this book. Much much easier to find what you’re looking for. Good Luck!

⭐I decided to get my certification for an ophthalmic assistant and decided to invest in this book to help me study for the exam. I have an older edition available to me at my job, but wanted something more up to date. A side by side comparison so far shows that most chapters in the older edition and the newest one are identical, but I am not even half way through the book. The photos and illustrations are a little better in the latest edition, and I am sure there will be some discrepancies when it discusses some of the pharmaceuticals. The price for this text book bets the JCAHPO website hands down. Amazon is way cheaper, and you get a new edition, not someone else’s highlighted, used copy if you buy on Ebay or Half.com. A must for the certification exam, and also check out the Ophthobook and the book of old exams by Janice Ledford, also sold here on Amazon.

⭐Very fast shipping, brand new in wrapper, and the information looks very thorough.

⭐I’m not sure why this book isn’t more highly recommended over some of the other texts on Amazon. It’s got an exhaustive listing of all the newer technology and is completely updated. I haven’t yet gone to the online site but it comes with an online subscription as well.

⭐An excellent resource for anyone studying to be an ophthalmic assistant or technician. I have a much earlier version of this book and the updates are very helpful

⭐I went to return this book and it’s no longer eligible for a return. I do not want this book.

⭐I haven’t unwrap it from its shrink-wrap yet since I have previous release, however, it’s must have book for any student aspiring to become an OT

⭐Love that you can search the Kindle edition. It makes finding references so much easier.

⭐Great knowledge

⭐Needed for school. Came in quickly and works great.

⭐Very convenient to read on my phone or my Samsung tablet.
