Reviews

As hospital based nursing education and clinical support department, my colleagues and I were frustrated with the most commonly used books for basic dysrhythmia. I acquired several of the most popular and we still did not find one we liked better than the one we were using (Huff) but we were not happy with Huff. As soon as I got this one, I shared it with my colleagues and it got a huge thumbs up from everyone. We use it as the text for our basic dysrhythmia course and I also use it to teach 12-lead ECG interpretation. I have to say that most of the 12-lead interpretation books I have looked at are woefully inadequate and assume the learner is a physician or medical student and already knows basic 12-lead. This one was refreshing because it lays down a good foundation for both 12 lead basics and the finer points of reading a 12 lead such as the differences in ST segment between things such as STEMI, BER, myocarditis, and other causes of ST changes. What is really terrific is the “12 lead ECG in a nutshell” cheat sheet. It lists all the basics you need to review an ECG in an algorithm format so that even someone that infrequently reads ECGs has a handy, meaningful reference. I might start handing it out to some of the docs!
