I’m about to sit my FRACS (orth) in Australia, and ordered this book in the hope it would provide some practice for our MCQ’s (though ours are slightly different, with a stem followed by 5 true or false answers). This book is OK, but I found the level to be a little easy, and there are a few mistakes in the answers’ reasoning at times. It may have been more use to me a few months earlier in my revision to help cement the basics.

“This book was my lifeline. The way the questions are worded prepared me for how the tests were going to be and by studying the rationales as well, I was able to critically think through the questions I wasn’t sure of. No lie, I wouldn’t have made it through without this book and the peds one as well. One key advice, don’t just ask and answer, really study the rationales because they are the key to the tests.”

We were required to get this book for a class, and ended up changing texts before we really got a chance to look through it. Everything was very well laid out, though, and if I could have afforded it as a student at the time, I would have kept this book for my library.

Reviews

I bought this book to study for the Cardiology Boards. Since it is the first edition I didn’t know if it would help. After taking the board exam I can say that this is a very good review book to study from. Many questions were very similar to the ones I encountered in the exam so it helped me a lot. Needless to say I passed the board!! One thing I didn’t like is that some questions have multiple answers contrary to the board where you choose the best answer. Over all I recommend this book.

The content is superb, immages a unique variety and quality usually not seen in a reference book in this price category. Since so many of the images are wounds it is a “must have” for hospital outpatient wound clinics. I showed this book to a Fort Lauderdale area wound specialist who heads wound care clinics in three major area hospitals and he immediately ordereed copies for his office and all three clinics.

Dr. McDonald’s work on this referece is a world class standard for meidcl reference material.
