Description

The long-awaited second edition of an authoritative reference on electrophysiologic vision testing, including detailed information on techniques and problems, basic physiology and anatomy, theoretical concepts, and clinical findings; with extensive new material. This authoritative text is the only comprehensive reference available on electrophysiologic vision testing, offering both practical information on techniques and problems as well as basic physiology and anatomy, theoretical concepts, and clinical correlations. The second edition, of the widely used text, offers extensive new material and updated information: 65 of the 84 chapters are completely new, with the changes reflecting recent advances in the field. The book will continue to be an essential resource for practitioners and scholars from a range of disciplines within vision science. The contributions not only cover new information—important material that is likely to become more important in the next decade—but also offer a long-range perspective on the field and its remarkable development in the last century. After discussing the history and background of clinical electrophysiology, the book introduces the anatomy of the retina and principles of cell biology in the visual pathways at the molecular, physiological, and biochemical levels. It relates these new findings to the techniques and interpretations of clinical tests, including the electro-oculogram (EOG), electroretinogram (ERG), and visual evoked potentials (VEP), which are discussed in detail, as are equipment, data acquisition and analysis, principles and protocols for clinical testing, diseases and dysfunction, and animal testing. Notable additions for this edition include chapters on the origin of electroretinogram waveforms, multifocal techniques, testing in standard laboratory animals, recent advances in analysis of abnormalities in disease, and the applications of these techniques to the study of genetic abnormalities.

⭐I work for an electrophysiology company and when I first started to learn about what it all meant, this was the book I was directed to. It did not disappoint, whether you are a complete novice or an experienced user looking to supplement your current knowledge. This book is far and away the best guide I have ever read that takes a detailed look at every single step and process that goes into electrophysiology of vision. Very well organized and written with an unbelievable amount of diagrams/imagery to aid in the learning process. I have read this book at least twice and will probably read it again in the future.

⭐Libro en buen estado

⭐I need it for my work, it was a very good price!

Description

This series of books is designed to help general practitioners. So are other books. What is unusual in this instance is their collec tive authorship; they are written by specialists working at district general hospitals. The writers derive their own experi ence from a range of cases less highly selected than those on which textbooks are traditionally based. They are also in a good position to pick out topics which they see creating difficulties for the practitioners of their district, whose personal capacities are familiar to them; and to concentrate on contexts where mistakes are most likely to occur. They are all well-accustomed to working in consultation. All the authors write from hospital experience and from the viewpoint of their specialty. There are, therefore, matters important to family practice which should be sought not within this series, but elsewhere. Within the series much practical and useful advice is to be found with which the general practitioner can compare his existing performance and build in new ideas and improved techniques. These books are attractively produced and I recommend them.

  • Number of pages: 102 pages
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 20.07 MB

Description

A state-of-the-art resource on successful management of intraocular lens monovisionPseudophakic Monovision: A Clinical Guide by renowned ophthalmologic surgery experts Fuxiang Zhang, Alan Sugar, and Graham Barrett reflects decades of robust academic research, with comprehensive discussion of the pseudophakic lens. Pseudophakic monovision is frequently used as a strategy for presbyopia correction in cataract surgery patients, with high satisfaction rates. The authors address the advantages and drawbacks to this approach, with topics ranging from the optics and neurophysiology of monovision to preoperative vision testing and counseling. The book fills a gap in the literature on this essential yet relatively neglected topic. In the current era of an ever-expanding array of intraocular lenses inserted in cataract surgery, monovision correction is emerging as an efficacious, far less expensive method for managing presbyopia than multifocal lenses. One eye is corrected for optimal distance vision and the other for optimal near vision, thereby avoiding both the expense of multifocal lenses and inconvenience of wearing glasses and/or contact lenses. Emerging adjustable IOLs address eye dominance issues, enabling patients to attain excellent distance acuity in one eye, then select the amount of myopia that works best in the second eye.Key FeaturesGuidelines on basic calculations, optics, and techniquesVarious practical considerations, such as patient selection, incorporating IOL monovision into practice, essential preoperative tests, nighttime driving, and limitationsOptics, neurophysiology, and graphic illustrations enhance understanding of the basics of IOL monovision including mini, moderate, and full monovision, as well as the concept of the not-sharply focused-zoneOcular as well as systemic contraindications, and how to use extra tests to detect subtle contraindications such as monofixation at the preoperative office visitHow to use conventional as well as crossed monovision to enhance premium IOL outcomes such as accommodating and Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) IOLsOcular comorbidity case reports provide knowledge about how specific co-occurring eye diseases impact patient outcomeThis invaluable resource will help refractive cataract surgeons incorporate Toric, accommodating, and EDOF IOL technology into ophthalmology practice and achieve excellent patient outcomes. This book includes complimentary access to a digital copy on https://medone.thieme.com.

Description

Good vision is more than 20/20 on a Snellen visual acuity chart. The modern ophthalmologist understands that contrast sensitivity, near and distance vision, performance under light and dark conditions, and the brain’s interpretation of input from the sensory apparatus, are all important elements in patients’ quality of vision. In Quality of Vision: Essential Optics for the Ophthalmic Surgeon, ophthalmologist and optics expert Dr. Jack T. Holladay explores the elements of vision that lie beyond Snellen testing. He explains the Quality of Vision addresses: • Measuring and treating astigmatism in corneal and IOL surgery • The importance of correcting spherical aberration in cataract and refractive surgery • IOL calculations after refractive surgery • Promising approaches to the correction of presbyopia • Other practical topics the clinician can use every day Recognized as the leader in ophthalmic optics, Dr. Holladay incorporates practical aspects of daily practice into each chapter as he expertly explains the scientific principles, mathematical formulas, and theories behind these important issues. Additionally, Quality of Vision includes numerous color illustrations to provide visual representations of the text’s key points. Dr. Holladay discusses what’s on everyone’s mind: • How to take the best measurements and perform the best calculations to ensure good outcomes in cataract and refractive surgery • How neural adaptation can improve outcomes • How today’s excimer laser systems deliver excellent optical correction, and why tomorrow’s systems will perform even better Quality of Vision: Essential Optics for the Ophthalmic Surgeon is the most complete and practical reference for ophthalmologists looking to increase their understanding of optical physics and their ability to deliver good vision to their patients after cataract and refractive surgery.

Quick Guide to the Management of Keratoconus: A Systematic Step-by-Step Approach 2012th Edition (2012) by Mazen M. Sinjab PDF

Ebook Info

  • Published: 2012
  • Number of pages: 166 pages
  • Format: PDF
  • File Size: 23 MB
  • Authors: Mazen M. Sinjab

Description

This book, designed for ophthalmologists and particularly for refractive surgeons, aims to develop practical and clinical skills in readers so that they are able to make the right decisions in managing keratoconus. There are four main chapters. The first is devoted to diagnosis and describes the clinical signs, the appearances on microscopy, and the significance of corneal hysteresis and corneal topography. Classifications and patterns of keratoconus are then presented, and the author offers his own new classification of topographic patterns. The third chapter addresses the management of the disease in detail. Both non-interventional and interventional approaches are discussed with due attention to contraindications and complications. In addition, a novel classification of management parameters is suggested, and a systematic approach to management, formulated. In the final chapter this approach is applied to nine cases that serve as clinical examples.
